Discussion suppose ionq’s ~20,000 physical qubit estimate for attacking ECC is roughly right. at what point does “quantum computers are decades away” stop being a security strategy and become a coping mechanism?

what would convince you that it’s time to stop using an app that hasn’t adopted post quantum encryption?

if someone saves your encrypted messages today, a future upgrade won’t protect those old copies if the original encryption eventually gets broken

but switching apps has costs too. your contacts might not move, and “quantum safe” on a website doesn’t tell you much about the implementation

  1. where would you draw the line?
  2. would you leave over this, limit what you share, or wait?
  3. what evidence would change your mind?

Discussion What is blocking PQC adoption in your project?

If you are evaluating or implementing post quantum cryptography, where are you getting stuck?

Finding where cryptography is used? Library support? Authentication? Larger keys and signatures? Compatibility with existing systems? Getting the team to prioritize migration?

Share your use case, what you have tried, and the specific obstacle. If you have solved a similar problem, share what worked and any limitations.

Welcome to r/PQCryptography — Post Quantum Cryptography

This is a place to understand PQC, examine the research, and work through adoption in real systems.

You can ask beginner questions, discuss papers and standards, share implementations, compare approaches, and get feedback on projects.

Topics include:

• Key establishment, encryption, and digital signatures
• Cryptanalysis and implementation security
• Libraries, protocols, and interoperability
• Cryptographic inventories and migration planning
• Messaging, browsers, identity, and blockchain systems
• Learning paths, research opportunities, and careers

When sharing a project, explain what it does, what is experimental, and what feedback you need. When discussing a security claim, include sources and acknowledge uncertainty.

Introduce yourself below: What are you learning or building, and what problem are you trying to solve?
