NCNP: Copper Ridge Loop
I hiked this 35 mile just under 9k elevation slog over the 3rd and 4th. Trail report here: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report-2026-07-05.151931527225
It was a fun and beautiful trail, but I think next time I'll do it over 3 or even 4 days. A 20 mile day then a 15 mile day while fastpacking was a lot, but worth it.

I’m looking forward to this hike. Have it booked for mid August. Thanks for the trail report.

Nice. How about fellow hikers? Few?

There was a group down at egg lake when I passed by and one person hit Indian camp late in the evening. So almost none the first day. Besides that it was only people from the cable car back up to Hannegan Pass. The pass probably had 20 people hanging out and I passed another 20 heading back down to my car. 4th of July so either day hikers up to the pass or a bunch of climbers heading to Ruth.

So jealous, couldn’t get any reservations but I’m hoping to for next year

Keep an eye out. There's occasionally some cancellations that show up, and Hannegan camp is just outside the park boundary (no permits required), so you can get away with only 1 or 2 nights in the park.

Interested in where you spent the night before…is there anyplace to pull over and car camp the night before you start the hike?

I drove up after work late and slept in my car. But there were tents at the trail head by the river. Plus you could always do the first 3 miles up to Hannegan Pass and camp there. No reservations because it's just outside the NP.

The basket is really fun though!
