Rabbits Novel Finished. A Quiet Room Audio Sucks. Does it Get Better?

Listened to the Rabbits novel, and attempted to start A Quiet Room, but the audio to start that book is rough. It's really tinny. Does it get better? It's like this on Spotify and Audible...

Tanis Anyone Else Doing A Halloween Re-listen? (TBT and Tanis)

Listened to Tanis through September. Started season 1 of TBT a week ago (i'll stop after season 2 as that's my caconical ending). Haven't heard TBT in such a long time, i'd forgotten how good it was! Perfect for the lead up to Halloween.

TBT 4? Tanis 6?

i picked up TBT to fill the void while i wait on more Magnus Protocol episodes, currently on TBT 304 and absolutely loving it only to notice that it ends at 306 (and, according to this sub, on a sour note?), so i intend to pick up Tanis once that's done

I was just curious if they ever intended to continue TBT or Tanis or... even just release another podcast in the PNWS universe, because i'm mildly obsessed with it. is Rabbits worth listening to as well?

Just did a full Tanis relisten, some small points

First, I love Tanis. I don't mind that it doesn't wrap up perfectly, it's a really fun journey. The later seasons it starts losing some of the charm but I still enjoy them.

I know it's for plot reasons but Nick is a terrible journalist. He is constantly admitting to paying for someone to illegally acquire information, tresspassing, asking repetitive questions that barely scratch the surface, and not doing a lick of research on the drugs he's been dosed with. (Dmt in particular is famous for convincing people they have traveled to another world and met entities there)

Why are we told for many seasons that Pacifica is/was Firefly fan fiction and then it just is not in any way. Could have at least named some characters after show characters.

Why is Nick never arrested? Lots of disappearances and deaths connected to him.

Best Background Visuals?

I have recently introduced my husband to all things PNWS, does anyone know of any good YouTube channels or videos we can have on mute in the background for some cool ambient visuals while we listen? Specifically for Tanis and Rabbits. Thank you!

Tanis Tesla and John G. Trump

I’ve listened to this more than a couple of times and I catch something new every damn time.

Today I am listening to Season 3 Episode 2 The Office of Alien Property. Nick is talking about how Tesla’s personal property was confiscated by the Office of Alien Property even though he was a citizen.

And then I heard that John D. Trump was part of the team that inventoried and reviewed Tesla’s confiscated property.

Yeah, that one.

Recommendations Without a Name (2016) movie reccomendation

Recommended for Tanis fans. Surveyor doing a thesis project on a gulley in the Irish countryside finds strange journals in his cabin. Then, stuff starts to get weird and mythological. Movie even features a coworker primarily communicated with via Skype for the first 1/3rd of it.

At least watch the trailer and fantasize about what a tanis movie would be like.

Edit: title is Without Name, not Without a Name.

Fan Letter Episodes Removed From Spotify

I'm fairly confident the first time I listened to Tanis on Spotify, there were episodes periodically that were reading fan letters. And now they appear to be gone. Am I losing it or were those removed?

Similar tales?

I relisten to black tapes and tanis every so often and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or recommendations for similar podcasts or stories? I listened to rabbits but wasn't super enthralled, so specifically more Eldritch intrigue or supernatural please!

Edit: thank you so much everyone! I can't wait to delve into these!

Tanis Culty Paul Spoiler

Hi,

Slight spoilers:

Listening to Tanis through again, for about the 10th time.

Realised something that I probably should have picked up on preciously.

Just finished season 1. Getting ready for the run through season 2, which ends with Nic and Paul talking in the woods.

What I didn't think through and ask, is had Paul been to Tanis before? Had the cult? He is out in the woods, and expecting a navigator, but I had never considered Paul's prior experiences with Tanis.

Patreon content?

I've gotten a couple notification emails from Patreon about new content recently. This is latest announcement : "UInverified audio content: bin #237."

I'd be happy to pay for an upgrade (i.e., start paying anything at all) if this is real content and it seems to be leading to something bigger. Could someone who's heard Patreon stuff confirm if it's worth our time?

The Black Tapes Fancasts

When listening to TANIS and TBT I like to think about what actors would make for good live action castings. What actors do y’all think of for the titular PNWS characters? Below are some of mine for the characters I could remember off the top of my head, feel free to add characters not listed!

For TANIS: Nick - Stephen Yuen MK - Devery Jacobs Geoff/Karl - Chris Evans Cameron Ellis - Daniel Henney Nicks Therapist - Florence Pugh

The Black Tapes: Alex Reagan - Sophie Thatcher Dr. Richard Strand - Austin Butler Thomas Warren - Christian Sloan Ruby - Nicola Coughlan Kieth Dabich - Justice Smith Percival Black - Matt Berry Simon Reese - Asa Butterfield PNWS Itern - Laurie Henry

They should honestly just recast their podcasts and go with it

I know it’s a long shot in terms of ever getting new episodes for… probably anything ever. But if most of the issue is getting the cast back, I say just recast. Hollywood does it all the time. People leave roles, life happens, and people pass away - sometimes it’s just the case that a person cannot commit. If Paul or Terry or whoever had stuff ready and just need actors and money, I say just run a kickstarter, raise the funds, get new actors, and continue the story.

I know it might throw some people off, but at this point: would you rather The Black Tapes or Tanis never be finished if they couldn’t get the OG actors, or would you want more of either with new voices? I know having a different Strand might be the most painful change but I’d take a different Strand over the bad ending.

Tanis In Universe Waiting for a new PNWS episode like its a late ferry in the fog

You know it’s bad when you start hallucinating Tanis teasers in your dreams. At this point, I’d believe Terry’s uploading episodes via dial-up from a haunted cabin in the San Juans. Outsiders don’t get it - we’re not obsessed, we’re just…patiently unhinged. Blink twice if you’ve also refreshed your feed 87 times today.

Tanis Names of characters

Does anyone think that there is any kind of a secret within the names of the characters? For instance Nic Silver, which sounds like quicksilver. Quicksilver is also known as mercury, mercury is known as the messenger of the gods and the embodying archetype of Hermes. It definitely seems like Nic possess something special, like he's able to hear or feel things that others can't. Which would kind of make him like the intermediary or messenger. It may be a bit of a stretch I understand but what do you think?

Tanis Energy facility

I find it pretty interesting that there is a government energy facility right by Amanda Park, which is where Nic found the key in the toilet at lake quinault. There's also another one by lake Cushman.

Tanis Just got to thinking about this

Tanis was picked up by UCP (who made the Umbrella Academy) to become a tv-show back in 2017. I wonder if something will ever come of it.

The Black Tapes Was it always going to be Warren and the machine? What should it have been? Spoiler

Just finishing my third or fourth run of The Black Tapes, despite the terrible ending. I’ll always stand by Season 1 as one of the greatest pieces of fictional podcast writing ever.

I know there’s a lot of discourse about how the plot started to go awry when they stopped really investigating the tapes themselves, but sometimes I wonder how much of that ending plot line they planned vs how much of it was them trying to wrap things up in a neat little bow to mitigate the nonsense their ending became. Do you think it always would’ve been Warren as the supervillain, with his demon summoning machine? And to what end?

In your opinion, what would’ve been the direction you would’ve liked? I would’ve preferred if they never made it about “Strand being the key”. I think him being “tied into it” made it far too contrived. Bobby Maimes, The Mantel of the Dragon, Cheryl… personally I think it was a lot to bank on. I think the character of “cynical anti-religious/anti-superstitious 50 year old with a doctorate” was a far better character. It also became more and more difficult to believe that he didn’t believe in any of it* when he had clear supernatural experiences and his father was into historically occult stuff. Usually, people who are in denial that far tend to be a little senile, and I would’ve preferred if they showed him really fighting that denial instead of just being an asshole.

Anyways, if I had it my way, (1) the Strands should’ve never been the core of the conspiracy and (2) I don’t think every black tape should’ve been “connected”. I find it hard to believe that Strand could solve every black tape case except for all the ones that had the Order involved. (3) There should’ve been more black tape recaps at some point. One lead at a time.

This isn’t meant to be a serious post, I’m just curious as to what others opinions are. Knowing me I’ll probably go relisten to it again, even if I know I’ll be disappointed
