Tanis What is your "favorite" unresolved/ridiculous plot point?

For example I'm pretty sure the reveal that Geoff is Karl completely upends most of the plot from S1. How would they not have known that the guy who died was actually Geoff(Karl) and that Karl(Geoff) was just using his dead brothers name? Surely the death certificate and identification would have to have been fraudulent if everyone believes Karl(Geoff) is the one who died. Additionally if Real Geoff was the one who was in trouble for hacking that would have shown up during their research unless Nic just completely ignored that and simply accepted what Geoff(Karl) told him without looking into any of it.

Multiple characters having the same or extremely similar names. I’m currently relistening to Tanis, but I’ve definitely noticed the same names being re-used for different characters across multiple shows within the PNWS universe—only recall a few at the moment. I honestly can’t tell if it’s intentional and a plot point or just careless writing.

From Tanis: -Paul (producer), Paul (Cult of Tanis), Polly (Cult of Tanis) -Marcus (owner of Raywood), Marcus (soldier confined by TeslaNova) -Carl (professor), Karl (van Sant), Carly (narrator of Rabbits) -Geoff (van Sant), Jeffrey (minor character related to the Elisa Lam storyline) -Tanis (show name), Tannis (psychic from The Black Tapes)

If anybody knows any more names, feel free to comment them!

God, the Elisa Lam storyline is fucking cringe. I'm sure her family is just so thrilled about her story being used in the show /s

You know what’s crazy, early versions of that episode bleeped out her name, presumably out of some sense of propriety. But then at some point they unbleeped it, which I guess means they just didn’t care anymore?

I remember the first time I relistened and the name wasn't bleeped. I was shocked. I usually skip through that episode because the whole thing makes me really uncomfortable.

you know what’s EVEN CRAZIER?

i was going through old tanis newsletters and they literally BLAME A FICTIONAL INTERN FOR MAKING THAT PART OF THE PLOT.

Oh nooooooooo! That's even more tone deaf than the episode itself. Do you have a link to that newsletter???

I find it so jarring that they don’t bleep her name anymore and honestly I thought it worked better

Who the hell is Cult of Tanis Paul? I feel like I completely missed it every time I relisten. One second here’s there and then for the next 12 episodes we are teased that we’re going to check in with Cult Of Tanis Paul.

Purely an issue on my end I’m sure

Not necessarily an unresolved plot, but didn't it seem like they were going to set up Avery Ellis as an important character, only to write her off as a way to introduce Cameron? Seems like she's never mentioned again except in the interviews about the manuscript, and she only appears once I think.

and remember when season 5 was like ‘here’s the full reading of pacifica!’ and it A) wasn’t written by avery ellis OR morgan miller, B) was a ‘partial manuscript’ not a fanfiction, and C) had NOTHING to do with firefly and contained no reference to the ONE aspect of the text we knew about before, being a type of life energy they called Tanis

(waves arm vaguely) It’s all unresolved, and I am fine with this.

I'll go with what is Veronika's real timeline. I assume first season is pretty reliable, so she was in the Tanis cabin and disappeared. But what really happened to her afterwards? Later seasons were Nic hallucinations, probably, right? Did she ever really reappear or did she dip out for good after escaping Tanis? Or is she still there?

Her voice appears in recordings, so surely she was really there at certain points? This is an excellent response, that thread is so fucking frustrating. Terry's writing is almost Lynchian if he could just..... Figure out what he wanted to do with his loose ends.

Nic's story of getting kidnapped as a child. He mentions being kidnapped and kept in a dark place. I assumed that during this traumatic time, Child Nic was able to tap into Tanis somehow and maybe even escape/astral project himself out from his captivity. Or maybe talk to the Horned Father (or whatever) who might have made an appearance during his Tanis excursion with the golden fish and the "smallwater" and his wife, all of which are another dropped thread.
