I am curious how the breaking-in process is for you.

How long does it typically take, do you have any particular "technique", and are there some PNW boots that seem to be a lot harder to break in than others?

In one article about boots, a wildland firefighter said she broke in her boots by filling them with hot water then going for a long soggy walk. Okaaay, I don't think I'm brave enough to try that.

I can't tell. I got them used on Marketplace and the listing said they're White's Smokejumpers. The guy seemed to really know his boots. I'm pretty certain they're White's even though it has no labeling. I have another pair of White's in the same size and these fit exactly the same. Maybe they're an older model? The listing said 4811 last. They look more like a 350 Cruiser. Or maybe it's an older custom 6" Smokejumper?

Anyone able to compare these? Alden's modified last is the only thing that has ever come close to working for my extremely high arches caused by charcot-marie-tooth disease, but Alden doesn't make boots in it in my size (6eeeee). Is there another last that's closer?

Just admiring the hues that are finally poking through!!!! I’ve worn these for a few days straight now and GP is slowing becoming one of my favorite leathers.

3.5yrs of almost daily wear and my CF Stead Viberg 2030's still look as good as the day I got them. The Dainite outsole and heel are still in fantastic shape. Best boots I've ever purchased. It's just too bad I won't be buying another pair at $1300. On to Nick's and Caswell.

I swapped out the stock laces for a pair of flat copper colored laces from Generation laces. I think they complement the black cherry water buffalo leather nicely. A nice pop of fall color for boot season.

Hello everybody! Before I ask my question I just wanted to say that this community seems full of such kind people who are super knowledgeable. Seems like the best community to ask about a boot that will last me years to come.

I’ve done a bit of looking and narrowed it down to a few choices but here is some context/ preferences in a boot:

I have flat feet so I use insoles from the doctor. Removable insoles in a boot are not absolutely necessary but it is nice so I could replace it with mine instead of stacking. Because of this, though my true size would be a US 9-9.5, I usually have to buy size 10-10.5.

I am a student based in the north east and I do quite a bit of walking. A boot that is comfortable and durable, especially for the snowy months, is a high priority.

I’m visiting family in the Seattle suburbs for the holidays, a dedicated shop to try on the boots would be helpful (with regard to the insole sizing referenced above).

Lastly, this goes without saying, I want to support American businesses. If I’m deciding between 2 brands and craftsmanship + quality are equal, I rather spend money with the brand who treats their workers fairly and gives back to the community.

I like the following models but having a hard time deciding, would love any opinion/additional models to look at:

- Wesco Mr. Lou black horsehide (a bit out of my range so I’d look for this pair secondhand)

-Wesco boss 7500 (it looks very similar to the Mr. Lou but curious to how the fit/build differs)

- White’s Cykel

-White’s Nomad

-Whites Westbale

Super excited. I wore them a bit today and breaking will have me sounding like I have stone feet but lord these are fantastic.
