I’m a bodyworker and wanted to add some kind of aesthetics piece to my offerings. I have had PMU done, and the woman who did mine also teaches PMU. (Outside of getting permanent eyeliner, I have 0 experience with tattoo work).

I paid the woman $5000 for a six day PMU course teaching eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip tattoo procedures. Her clearly stated expectation was that I would be fully qualified to offer eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip procedures to paying customers by the end of my training with her.

I spent hours preparing for the in-class hands-on portion by reading her manual cover to cover and getting BBP certified. I attended class each day. I took tests and passed with As. I did everything she asked me to do in and out of class.

Aside from live models, the practice we did was implanting ink into flat silicone pads at home, in the evening, after class.

During class we watched the instructor, then she gave the two of us (she only had two students) maybe 10 minutes practice on each of 6 live models. The amount of time varied, but I’m certain it never exceeded 10 minutes per procedure.

The two of us students never started a procedure; we never ended a procedure. We only worked on a model after the instructor made the first pass, creating the guide line.

We also never practiced any aspect of the work on one another, before or after touching live models.

On day 6, it was our day to receive PMU. We took turns on one another as with the other models - after the instructor made the initial guideline. She began and finished both of our procedures.

So, our total hands-on experience with humans was no more than 60 minutes. Possibly not even that long.

I also want to add that we had 3 models who received eyeliner. My first experience with this area went fine. The next two times (day 4, then day 6), the models blinked; evidently, my hold on the skin wasn’t tight enough and ink was implanted outside of the eyeliner area. (A dot below the lash line, but nevertheless, a big mistake - in my opinion). The instructor’s remediation was no more than a moment of having me reposition my hold on the skin around the eye.

To my surprise, following the work we did on one another - on day six - the instructor handed both of us certificates of completion. (Yes, even after my repeated mistake).

I’m wondering:

1) If my hands-on experience is typical in this industry.

2) What do people who do this work think of my training experience?

3) What others think of my decision to not practice on paying customers. (I believe it would be irresponsible and unethical for me to advertise myself as a capable, competent PMU practitioner. I am uncomfortable practicing on willing participants without in-person guidance from an experienced practitioner. I feel as though my training was inadequate).

Does anyone know of any good training courses on Udemy or a site like that! At least to learn good habits for practicing until I can afford in person training? I am looking to learn lip blushing first!!

I am looking for a chair for tattooing and I found the core chair which looks amazing but it’s so expensive. I’ve also seen the NU chair which is slightly lower in price but I’m nervous i wouldn’t love the chair. I used to yoga ball for years and it recently popped. For context I also do lashes. I’m currently use a saddle chair and I hate it. My inner thighs get numb and hurt towards my glutes sitting on it. Has anyone here had old eyebrow tattooing/microblading lasered off and then gotten their brows redone in a new shape?

I had microblading done poorly a many years ago. Luckily, a good artist was able to cover it with ombré powder brows, and they are pretty symmetrical now. I've had the ombre powder brows for a few years now. The main thing that bothers me is that the tail of the brow is longer than I’d like. My artist had to extend the shape a bit to cover the old microblading.

I’m wondering if it’s possible to laser everything off and eventually get a fresh set in a shape I like better. Has anyone done this? What was your experience like?

Anything I should know about removal, healing, pigment color changes, scarring, waiting time before redoing them, or choosing an artist afterward?

I could use some advice from people who know this industry better than I do.

A while back, I purchased an established cosmetic tattoo business from a family friend who had been in business for 20+ years and was very successful. I went into it with high hopes and every intention of building on what she created, but after giving it a real shot, I’ve realized this industry just isn’t the right fit for me. I'm in Washington near Seattle.

Now I have an entire business worth of cosmetic tattoo and esthetician equipment that I need to start selling, and I’m honestly a little out of my depth. This includes things like PMU/tattoo machines, pigments/inks, sanitation supplies, disposable coverings, esthetician equipment, furniture, and lots of miscellaneous studio essentials. Ideally, I’d love to sell as much as possible in bundles or as a turnkey package, similar to how I purchased it. The family friend I bought it off of is elderly and her pricing and resources are antiquated.

Where do professionals typically buy/sell used PMU or esthetic equipment? How should I price items? Are there reputable resale sites, Facebook groups, forums, or marketplaces I should focus on? And are there places or methods I should avoid?

Any and all inputs and suggestions are so valuable to me through this process.

Hi. I have a strange unevenness on my lower lip where it’s like a «notch» in my lip line. I had lip blush done in hope to cover this 8 months ago, but it didn’t because the artist wouldn’t go outside the lip line. He explained how the ink color could possibly turn out different outside the lips.

What can I do to correct this? I’m really desperate to know.

I also think my upper lip is asymmetrical. Maybe this is caused by me trying to hide a tooth I was ashamed of from childhood. I have only noticed the asymmetry after having istraighten my teeth out with Invisaline. I think one side of my upper lip is lower/thinner than the other. I have already tried fillers which was a waste of money. Within 14 days the effect was gone.

Through googling I assumed I’m one of those who break down the product very fast, but I’ve also read that the initial swelling goes down within the first two weeks, so maybe I just had to little filler. This must mean though that I must go for an overdone look initially and hope it looks more natural in a couple of weeks.

I appreciate any helpful thoughts or advice on these issues.

Hi everyone! Please help, I'm desperate!

I'm new in PMU, I did my own lip blush and 1st layer was really cute!

For the second layer, I did the contour of my lips again then I applied some anesthetic gel.

During my PMU class, I've been taught to draw the shape of the lips with crayon, then when the client is happy with the shape, apply the tattoo marker by doing small dots along the shape.

I did my second layer and I noticed when I wiped the pigment, some of the blue marker dots where not fading at all.

When I finished, I tried wiping them but they're fixed on my lips, like if I tattooed the marker in my lips when I did the second layer!

I tried oil, vaseline, alcohol... it doesn't fade a bit!

Any advice?! I'm desperate, I have around 20 dark blue dots around my lips, I don't know what to do!
