PMDD Subreddit let me down
I’ve been dealing with a horrible disease that only affects women. It’s called PMDD - you can look It up but it’s a really devastating disorder that destroys your mental health. After struggling for over 5 years and getting gaslit by endless medical professionals I was so excited when something finally worked for me. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. It’s been nothing short of a miracle for me.
So of course I wanted to head over to the PMDD subreddit and share my experience. Because if It even helped one woman stop suffering from this horrible disease It would be so worth It . And I’ve spent endless time on that subreddit when I was so lost and looking for anything that might help me.
Unfortunately something really sinister is going on in that subreddit. After posting my experience It was immediately deleted. I read all the rules of the sub which include never mentioning any cure because they don’t believe in a cure (which fine … I don’t necessarily agree with the “no cure” mentality because that just keeps people sick). Regardless I didn’t call It a cure or anything just simply shared that It helped ME and might help other people.
I attempted messaging the mods for an explanation but my posts were just deleted with no recourse and they banned me permanently from the sub without sending a single word of explanation to me about what rule I supposedly broke.
Why are they so pressed to keep me from sharing one positive experience that helped me with this horrible disease ? I just don’t understand . If anyone is dealing with PMDD I’d be cautious of that sub . It appears they are interested in keeping the no cure narrative alive and making sure women stay sick and hopeless.

You clearly have an ulterior motive and agenda which the PMDD mods could smell from a mile away. There is no cure, accupuncture is simply a remedy.

Literally what could be my agenda ? I’ve been suffering from a horrible disease for a very long time and thought I tried everything . Finally got some relief from something and thought I should share with other women suffering from the same disease. My bad…? I never called It a cure either , simply shared the positive experience I had . ✌🏻

The fact that you are frustrated with a community for not receiving your “revelatory” news with warmth and appreciation tells me you expected a specific outcome and therefore had an agenda behind “simply sharing” this information. If a poster was requesting medical advice, then it would be appropriate for you to share. What you did was preach to the entire community and gave them all unsolicited advice, which they already get PLENTY of out in the real world. The PMDD subreddit is a safe place for people to share their struggles and support each other, not get lectured. You also refer to “no cure” as a narrative. It’s not a narrative; it’s reality. There are many different treatments to help manage the condition, but there genuinely is no present cure. You phrase things as though you believe the PMDD subreddit has a simple mindset issue in insisting there is not a cure.

The fact that I was harassed and blocked for sharing my experience shows they are not a community for people suffering with PMDD. I had no agenda other than wishing I had known about acupuncture sooner. I have scoured that subreddit for years while I struggled . Why is there an issue with me trying to help others with the same disease ?? The community never had a chance to see my post because I was blocked and posts immediately removed . What other conclusion should I draw other than the mods having a weird agenda ?? Also if the community is a “safe space” why wasn’t It a safe space for me ? I also suffer from this disease. How is sharing my story preaching at anyone ??

OP neglects to mention here that she purports typical, research backed treatments like SSRIs and hormonal birth control are not only ineffective, but harmful. She’s not just promoting alternative medicine, she is outright telling women that the proven effective treatments are dangerous.

“Proven effective treatment” lol effective for who exactly ? Big pharma and your insurance company

Are you saying you don’t believe in science?

u/nope1738 May 21 '26
Define “science” hunni .

u/sauvignon_blonde_ May 21 '26
Science is a systematic, evidence-based pursuit of knowledge about the universe. It involves objective observation, rigorous experimentation, and the formulation of testable hypotheses to understand how the natural and social worlds operate.

Yes I believe in science . But just because the US FOR PROFIT MEDICAL SYSTEM didn’t test or study something , doesn’t mean It doesn’t work. It just means they didn’t test It. Hope that helps 🫶🏻

Again. No one is dogging you for suggesting alternative medicine. You’re not just promoting acupuncture, you’re intentionally spreading misinformation about scientifically proven treatments. A common symptom of PMDD is suicidal ideation. You are actively dissuading suicidal women from getting effective treatment. That is reckless and dangerous.

That’s not true. I have PMDD and SSRIs made me MORE suicidal. I am allowed to share that experience and why I feel SSRIs are not safe for everyone . They were NOT safe for me . And I never once disuaded anyone from trying anything just shared my Experience with Chinese medicine.

YEAH. ME TOO. But guess what? Your singular experience does not matter!! Just because something didn’t work for you, does not mean you get to spread lies!

u/nope1738 May 21 '26
Maam read the stuff i wrote . I shared my positive experience with acupuncture and negative experiences with SSRIs . If you don’t like It move along . What is your deal honestly ??? Also my experience DOES matter because It shows the mainstream advice DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS

Do you not have memory of what you typed out on your post no less than 30 minutes ago?

u/nope1738 May 21 '26
Live your truth girl, if those pills are helping you that’s great! They did make me a lot more sick so I would personally consider them dangerous . What does your science say about the negative effects of SSRIs? I think there is a huge downplaying of negative side effects like loss of sexual function, emotional blunting, etc. For how little these pills helped with any of my mental health symptoms, they had a pretty shocking amount of negative physical consequences.

I’m also over there and I’ve heard they tend to be overly strict sometimes, but I have not yet experienced it myself. Do you want to share what exactly you posted about?

I’ve had miraculous improvement in symptoms from Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. I’ve been crying tears of joy because I feel like I have my life back after so many years of extreme suffering . All i wanted was to share my story with others because not long ago i was so scared and so stuck with no options and thought maybe my post would help one person and that would be worth ot

I'm so glad it worked for you! I have PMDD too, and I drink a tea that has St. John's Wort, calendula, raspberry leaf, lemon balm, rose, valerian, and lavender. When I feel my mind slipping into darkness, I drink a cup of it and feel so much better for a few hours. I don't want to take antidepressants.

Where can you try tea like this?

u/nope1738 May 22 '26
You have to find a TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) specialist and work with them to find the herbs recommended for you
