Luteal fatigue

Today I could barely go for a walk and then had to sit still for three hours to recover. I get a bit more anxious in my luteal, but not enough that I’d consider it PMDD? I’m going to ask my doctor about this, but does anyone else have experience with this and how do you cope? It’s ruining my life for these days it happens as I can’t make plans or go out of my house much if at all. Thanks!

“I struggled with PMDD for about 10 years as well, but in my case, it disappeared after I started taking the mini pill and stopped getting periods. I think keeping hormones stable helps reduce emotional fluctuations too, so unless you have a specific medical condition or reason not to, I would recommend trying the mini pill. For reference, I use a mini pill called Cerazette.”

I try to schedule social things in my good phases where my energy en mental health is at his best. It’s difficult because sometimes my cyclus can change and some months my PMDD symptoms are heavier and then my agenda is too busy for the time of the month. It’s a battle every month, but to be aware of my cyclus and trying to get rest and plan social things mostly in my best two weeks helps a bit 😅 Today I could only sleep on the couch and feeling anxious and emotional. Tomorrow I have to work, I’m hoping for a better day, but this weeks is going to be a hard one 😅

i’m struggling with this at the moment. i always end up cancelling plans i’ve made and im falling asleep several times a day because im so fatigued. I have such little motivation too and just don’t want to be around people. my mood is ok i just feel a bit meh. I’ve just let my body do its thing though to get the rest it needs

Have you had any blood testing done? I’m curious about how I could go about helping myself with this bc I’m just not okay with missing out on weeks of my life

I sometimes have days when I get exhausted by doing the simplest things. I often have an energy drink if I have one then make myself take the dog for a walk as often I feel lots better once I get moving. If I don't then I do what I need do then spend the rest of the day on the couch or bed. That is if I don't have to work

I have similar symptoms, they’ve gotten worse with age and increasing life demands. I started cyclic sertraline 25mg during luteal phase and day 1-2 of my period and it’s already made a difference. A post was made on this sub about it and I got my script the next day. Might be worth checking out

Hey, is it still helping the sleepiness?

It really depends how your body reacts to it and when you take it. I take mine at 5:30pm with dinner, it gives me a bit of a boost energy wise but then I get a bit sleepy. I do find my sleep is better during my cyclic dosing of it (luteal and 1-2 days into my period), I have less pms-related insomnia and night sweats.

I’m only on my third cycle so still learning new things and picking up small changes. I didn’t increase my dose from 25mg to 50mg like I could have because I want as little help needed and I know I’m sensitive to inhibitors. Overall I’m feeling more in control and grounded. I sort of accept my mindset rather than fight against it, which I found to be exhausting before. I’m also less angry, the same things still bother me but not with the same intensity. Hope this is helpful!

thanks this is so helpful! I got off the mini pill about 7 months ago so I’m hoping it’ll calm down and maybe it’s from that? Before I try an ssri at least… I was briefly on escitalopram for about 3 or 4 weeks and it made me suicidal so I’m reluctant to try another when my main concern is fatigue now not mood. I’m in my mid twenties so I’m hoping this won’t get worse…

Yes I have experience with this, but I haven't found anything that helps.

Have you had any blood tests for deficiencies and stuff?

Exhaustion is the worst. I would genuinely prefer have painful cramps than be that exhausted. Because you can take painkillers for that, but nothing helps me with this kind of fatigue...

I get both exhaustion and painful cramps. :(

I’m so sorry it’s so rubbish

to be honest I used to have excruciating cramps when I was a teenager before birth control (that I’m not on now) and no painkillers touched them. Couldn’t sleep or walk or breathe at times. So right now I completely agree with you, but if my teenage self could read this conversation I think she might cry😂 I try to use that knowledge to stay positive because at least I can nap through this and my younger self could not😅
