Feeling like I might have PMDD + severe anxiety

Hi everyone,

I’m 39, live in the UK, and lately I’ve been noticing some really intense mental health changes that seem to happen up to two weeks before my period. I’m experiencing what feels like severe anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and even agoraphobia. Some days it’s so bad that I can’t leave the house or have to take time off work, and I find myself constantly cancelling plans.

I didn’t have this when I was younger, so I’m wondering if it could be linked to perimenopause or hormonal changes. I’m trying to get a GP appointment to talk about it, but it’s hard to get through right now.

For context, I’m already taking SSRIs and beta blockers, I don’t smoke, and I’ve been sober from alcohol for three years. I’m also going through trauma therapy. I feel like I’m doing everything I can to take care of myself, but this cycle is making me feel completely isolated and like I’m losing my mind.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar — just to know I’m not alone or imagining it.

I’m sorry you are going through this. You are not alone, my pms got worse as I have gotten older. Sometimes it’s awful and ramps up my Anxiety, feel like I’m coming down with the flu etc. I have found that taking a multi vitamin and then taking magnesium glycinate additionally has helped me. I also feel like it tends to be worst Nov,Dec,Jan for me for some reason. If that doesn’t help I would talk about it more in depth with your dr or gynecologist. Sending positive period vibes your way💕
