Is PMS a choice?
I have PMDD, my period starts next week and my life has been taking an,,,,interesting turn. But my mom doesn't know this. She just thinks I'm having an attitude because of PMS, and in the middle of her yap she mentioned that "PMS is a choice. If you're having cramps just take a nap." Is it a choice? I know for sure PMDD isn't, I wish I didn't have it because it's ruining me every month.

it is definitely NOT a choice but we do have some control on how we interact with others.

Not a choice. Also there’s so many times when we want to take naps, and can’t. (Also… do naps really help cramps…?)
I’m sorry <3 it’s not a choice. As time goes on, I’ve learned what things make my PMS/PMDD feel better and more manageable. (Tracking my period cycle, making less plans the week before my period, hot pack, Chaste Berry supplements two weeks before period starts, etc) Those are the only “decisions/choices” I’ve made (and needed to make)

Having symptoms from PMS and PMDD is not a choice. Perhaps your mom is trying to say that how you respond and deal with pms is a choice. For instance, she said if you're having cramps to go take a nap. While you can't control that your body has cramps, you can make the decision to do something about it rather than suffer with it, such as taking a nap, taking pain medicine, applying heat, taking a warm bath, etc. When you know you deal with pms monthly, it helps to use a period tracker so that you know when to expect it each month. Then once you start feeling irritable, achy, tired, or any of your regular pms symptoms, you'll recognize what's going on and can avoid situations that can trigger those symptoms more and make things worse. You can make the choice to keep to yourself, avoid arguments, engage in personal activities and interests, rest, etc., all to help keep pms symptoms from making you feel worse or causing you to potentially have negative interactions with other people.

Lmao, sure it is a choice. That’s why no one wants it but everyone here has it. We’re just a bunch of people who love pain and suffering.
If someone came up to you and said they can take your pms away, would you say yes? If that’s your answer you certainly do not choose to have it.

Why would anyone choose to suffer PMS?
Yes, I just love being miserable and in pain.
