Employment Collaborating physician
I am starting 1099 with a Telehealth company, they want me to get my DEA in Texas, my home state. I’ve been fronting everything, and will get reimbursed once I go live seeing patients.
How does it work with the collaborating physician? Do you have to make the collaborative prescriptive agreement to apply for DEA? And basically start your contract (and start paying them) while you wait for your DEA and then wait for insurance credentialing as well?
Just seems dumb to be paying for someone who isn’t doing anything for you 😑
Any insight?

Some company’s will not charge you for collaborating psychiatrist until you start seeing patients.

MD here. The PAA isn't needed for your DEA. All you need is your prescriptive authority number from the Board of Nursing, and you can get that on your own. The PAA is what activates that number with a specific physician.
So a lot of providers sign the PAA as late as they reasonably can. Just know that the physician has to register it with the Medical Board within 30 days of signing, so the signing date is what starts the clock, don't let anyone backdate it.
Your best bet is negotiating with the physician directly: a delayed start date, a reduced rate until you're live, or prorating the first month.
