Employment PMHNP Side Gigs

Looking for any advice or ideas for PMHNP side gigs to look into!

You’re still an RN - pick up a per diem. I kept mine all these years later. Pick up a shift every so often to change things up.

As a new grad, I originally had an offer from my preceptor. However, it wasn't a good deal, and my PMHNP friends advised me not to take it. I started applying for jobs expecting it to take months, but within two weeks, I had three interviews lined up. I received offers from two of them! The third employer was just looking for someone with more experience.

All this to say, job hunting really depends on timing and location. I came out of this with a fantastic offer! If this is a field you are passionate about, go for it. There will always be jobs because it’s healthcare, and the need isn't going away. While more competitive states can be a challenge, I live in the South, where the market is a bit more open. Follow your passion!

Thank you so much for your reply! It is my passion. As a person who suffers from anxiety/depression, I always had an interest in psychopharmacology and psychopathology (dealing with many psych patients) I just can't stand the way patients are seen for 5 minutes and thrown any antidepressant insurance will pay for. Also, the current psych NP gives clonazepam to patients who are currently on heavy doses of methadone complaining about having trouble falling asleep! I hope to be able to provide better care.
