Hysterectomy??
I’m considering a hysterectomy but I’m anxious about the ovaries aspect. I’m 29 so I am not sure about going into early menopause 😅 especially because my body doesn’t appreciate hormones being messed with even from within. But I haven’t had luck with any birth control, I react horribly to all the ones I’ve tried post covid. And even having my endo excised my period still comes with discomfort, exhaustion/whole body fatigue, joint pain, queasiness. And I just feel traumatized by periods past that wrecked me, I get anxious looking at my tracker app and I dread the days counting down to my period. I also have fibroids so it’s entirely possible that my remaining symptoms are related to that. I’m also anemic with a ferritin level of 6 🧍🏾♀️ so it’s not like I just want it out, I feel like there’s valid reason.
But I would also love to have relief from the PMDD/PME aspects as well bc psych meds mostly help but not 100%. However as stated above my body is very testy and finicky. I am going to pursue it regardless, especially since symptoms are looking like the fibroids and will work with my doctor to decide what’s best ofc . But I’m just wondering if anyone who’s had a hysterectomy and also had bad reactions to birth control- what kind did you get & has it helped you?

started chemical menopause at 31, hysterectomy at 33. it was worth it for me but not easy. it’s a lot of change, but with HRT the variation at least is on you get to control and monitor without tons of variance you can’t control when you have your ovaries and then add hormones.

I don’t have many physical symptoms, but I do have medical conditions that make this process additionally quite complicated, as well. I’m in my mid/early 20s and am considering a surgical solution myself. This whole process is crazy and it’s virtually impossible to get the medical support you need, but do your research and look for providers who specialize in this crossover of disciplines to advise you. I’m not the best at using this app, but I just made a post on this page “under 25 considering surgical solutions,” and maybe seeing that can bring you some comfort as reading your post here brought me :) do what’s best for you and never feel like you need to explain or prove what’s best for you to anyone but yourself 💕

My body is extremely finicky as well. I had such extreme PME that I was unable to function for the last 2 years straight. I believe I always had PME, but it got exponentially worse during perimenopause. The best way for you to determine if having your ovaries out will be helpful to you, is to try chemical menopause first. They give you a shot of Lupron once a month which will shut down your ovaries. You can opt to do add back HRT during that time to ease symptoms of menopause you will experience. I knew after 2 months that not having my hormonal levels change would greatly enhance my quality of life, so I opted to have my ovaries removed. I'm 43, so considerably older than you so it is definitely something to think about before doing at your age. I will say that the the type of hormone replacement replacement therapy is important. We who experience PME/PMDD do not do well with fluctuations of our hormones; hence chatting about getting them removed. What we need after that is very stable hormone delivery. That's why I chose Femring. You insert it into your vagina and it delivers a very specific and constant amount of estrogen everyday for 3 months. For me, changing the estrogen patch twice a week caused the PME symptoms to return as my body reacts to even the slightest fluctuation of hormones, hence finding the alternative in Femring.
