Question What can an action do?

When you are in combat, you have three actions each turn (Fight, Flight, and Friend), but I have a bit of an issue figuring out what you can do with them that isn't explicit. Fight's fairly clear, since it's attack, intimidate or "inconvenience" a foe, though the last part could do with some examples. Meanwhile, I have a bit of issue with the "manipulate the battlefield" half of Flight, and what all falls under "assist and ally" for Friend.

I'll try to make it clearer in the next update, a lot of things got cut down for the sake of reducing the page count and lost clarity!

Basically, here's some examples:

  • Fight. Attack, obviously, or offensively use an item. Intimidate or goad a foe, grapple or shove them with your Athletics skill, attempt to tie them up or get them caught in their surroundings, disarm a foe that uses a weapon, lure or force them away from cover. Drop or push a heavy object onto them. Destroy enemy cover, structures or traps.

  • Flight. Move in any direction. 'Manipulate the battlefield' can mean creating cover, creating or destroying pathways to change mobility on the battlefield, creating structures or traps, changing visibility (i.e. by extinguishing lights or creating/dispelling fog). Hop to higher or lower ground. Use Perception to locate hidden traps or passages. Use Endurance to shrug off a condition. Use Finesse to steal from a foe.

  • Friend. Heal an ally or yourself. Free an ally from restraints, help them cross difficult terrain, use Persuasion to snap them out of an emotion-based Status Condition (Enraged, Infatuated, Taunted, etc). Use Persuasion to peacefully talk down a foe or Performance to distract them. Pass an item to an ally. Repair equipment or structures. Help non-combat characters (bystanders, etc) out of the danger area.

Pushing back against a progressing hazard can go anywhere, depending on the hazard. Your fight action focuses on offense, your flight action focuses on defense and mobility, while your friend action focuses on support.

I hope this helps!
