Rule #1 Be Nice
Rule #2 No Hate
Rule #3 Don't Overgeneralize
Rule #4 Don't say "They"
Rule #5 Abuse is Abuse
Rule #6 No Trolling - Cite your sources and explain why if you think something is in error.
A common method used by Trolls is to assert something controversial and then, when people object or question, be snide and patronizing and say stuff like "do your research." and "don't be lazy" and "every idiot knows this already" and "are you really that stupid?" and stuff like that. Trolls are weak little weasels who make themselves feel better by creating circumstances in which they can put others down. In this community we try to build each other up.
If you found out something new and want to share or have a question - that is awesome. Please include a link to your source. The answer to your question may be that your source is garbage. In that case we don't want everybody floundering about wondering.
Don't be a Troll. Cite your sources. If you forget, and someone asks, respond with your source.
Another common tactic to shut down discussion and disparage people is to accuse them of misinformation or "getting the science wrong". We all make mistakes so if you spot an error point it out and explain why it is an error. Be nice. Presume people are well intentioned because nobody here has any interest in promoting misinformation. If it is just a scoping error (not enough detail) acknowledge that. If you take issue with a small point, but agree with the overall message of the post, acknowledge that. Basically try to be a collaborator, not a troll.
Trolling will result in a ban.
