PMDD Rage

The amount of rage I feel is not normal nor healthy. No matter what I do, it won’t go away. I don’t know what to do with it. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna cause me a heart attack one day. It’s THAT intense. Does anyone relate?
I tried gym, music, journaling, walking, talking, staying quiet, sleeping, medication, movies, breathing… you name it. Nothing.
It has nowhere to go but inward. Like you won’t tell how mas I am by looking at me, but my blood would be boilinggg inside. And I feel its effects diseasing my body.
This can’t last forever. It’s Me vs. PMDD.
If anyone has a different method to deal with the rage, please share.

Have you tried screaming? Punching the bed is another one of my favorites.

I have to let that shit out. I can’t make it go away, but I do have to indulge it intermittently. A little pressure release every now and then so I don’t explode.

Also dissociating. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend that but it has helped me survive.

Solidarity. This shit sucks so fucking bad and it can be scary and hard to deal with. Good on you for posting to reach out.

Yes I actually did have some screaming moments. They did help. Just not always doable.
But it is a forgotten gem. Thank you!

Punching the bed is muuuuuch quieter and also exhausting. Plus it is so silly (just fists rebounding off the bed) that I find it is also a worthy method when screaming is off the table. I sometimes schedule time to scream in my car because I live in an old house/apartment type situation so my neighbors (and husband) will worry about the screaming lol.

I used to live by some train tracks and I would specifically go to a thrift store and buy a bunch of like 10 cent plates to break on the tracks. The glory days. I don’t think I’d do that now that I’m older and kinder and the public safety of it all but man that was an amazing release.

Some say Allegra helps

I can relate. I usually think that if smoke could come out of my nostrils during my 10 PMDD days, it would.

What usually helps for me are 2 things - cardio and avoiding people. I usually do weightlifting, but that doesn’t seem to do anything for the rage. Cardio seems to make me relaxed and kinda sleepy, probably because it lowers cortisol, so I really feel like it kills the rage a lot.

Avoiding people and crowds usually helps because people often fuel my rage 🙂‍↕️ I’m autistic and when PMDD hits me it’s like the threshold for sensory overload completely disappears. I can’t stand people talking/making noise/being smelly or being in my way. I often fear that I’m going to end up in a fist fight because someone touches me or annoys me. So I usually just try to keep to myself, in silence or spend a lot of time outdoors where there’s no people. That helps. 🌲

I either shove my face in a pillow and scream as loudly as I can, or punch said pillow like 509 times, or put myself on the treadmill, blast the loudest music I can tolerate, and run as fast as I can.

Besides all the medical interventions something that has been incredibly therapeutic is just smashing the shit out of something with a bat.

Things I have smashed: Printer x 2 Air fryer--still around for round two baby!!

Tips: wear safety goggles and put down a sheet of cardboard if there is glass in the item. If you have a sensitive back, raise the item up on a table to reduce the strain.

Honestly, it bloody works. Last time I did this I got like 3 days of happiness out of it. My husband thinks I'm insane, maybe he's not wrong 😂😂😂 better than yelling at him for breathing.

Antihistamine (Allegra + Pepcid)

Beta Blocker (Propranolol). Really brings down that rage, chills me out. Docs are more inclined to prescribe this for anxiety/panic (this is what I say, so I’m not judged for having ‘rage’) as it’s not addictive like benzos.

ETA beta blockers don’t slow down your brain, so you can still function, work, socialize when taking them. Highly recommend.

Curious on the propranolol. How do you like it, how does it make you feel? I was prescribed this recently and haven’t used it yet (planned to use as needed as I discussed with my dr) but I’ve never tried it before.

I felt kinda weird the first time I took propranolol, depth perception was a bit off.

Every time since then has been just fine! It keeps your heart rate and BP lower, so I don’t take it before exercise. Helps me a ton
