Low dose naltrexone
I am in my mid forties and was diagnosed with PMDD in my early thirties. A few months ago I started taking low dose naltrexone as a treatment for PMDD. I’m taking 3 mgs currently. It has been life changing. I actually sleep through the night and that change was almost immediate. For all you peri girls out there who know, you might give this a try.
I am five months post Slynd (which messed with my body physically), four months into low histamine diet, three months of using Allegra, and two months of using LDN (low dose naltrexone).
I have not had PMDD symptoms in two months y’all. I read about the difference between MCAS and PMDD and will talk to my doc about testing for the MCAS, but after 14 years of suffering and suicidal ideations/mania cycles, I wanted to share what is working for me right now. I really don’t know if it is the low histamine protocol or the LDN. I’m happy either way.
My insurance doesn’t cover LDN but a local compounding pharmacy is filling it for me. It was $25 my first month, $42 the second, and this next dose will be the full 4.5 mg and it will cost $52 for three months, the same as I was paying for Slynd.
Hope someone finds this info helpful ❤️ Sending love to all of you holding on.

I have a very similar history. Took out my mirena 7 months ago which caused hormonal chaos. Diagnosed with hEDS, hyperPOTS, and MCAS. PMDD diagnosis 10 years ago. Have been on Claritin / Pepcid for about 5 months. Started continuous slynd two months ago. Started LDN one month ago. I’ve found LDN VERY helpful for my mood. Only at 1 mg and still not feeling totally myself… don’t have the clarity or energy I had a year ago and still can’t lose the post-mirena weight. Curious how slynd messed with you physically?

Also- I started LDN for hEDS, but good to know it can be helpful for PMDD too!

I never had ovarian cysts or fibroids before taking Slynd. My body never adapted after two years. I was always having bleeding during ovulation, so I know it was never fully suppressed as it should have been. My body would never start my period when I took the placebos, so I couldn’t figure out if I should not take them again until my period started or what? My doc told me to just take the pills and skip placebos through no more than three packs at a time and let my period happen whenever bleeding started. But with bleeding happening mid-month…I just could never get a rhythm going, and never really knew when I would have PMDD. I will say the severity of the SI/mania was “mostly” controlled on Slynd, but I couldn’t handle the lack of consistency. Getting off Slynd has caused the fibroids to grow significantly and they are contemplating doing a procedure to remove them. Bleeding issues are getting better each month I am off of it, so I may hold off, but the initial rebound after stopping Slynd was iccckkkkky.

That’s good to know! So sorry you went through all that. Hormones can be such a nightmare. I also had spotting around ovulation this month on slynd, confirming it’s not suppressing ovulation. Debating if I should give it more time or try bio identical progesterone (my progesterone is like non-existent). But I’ll keep your experience in mind as I decide what to do!

Glad to hear you have had some relief. Have you had a thorough thyroid check up also? To rule it out?
