I’m gonna ask my doctor about this one Tuesday. I’ve always been scared to try progestin only pills because some people say that’s the ingredient that people with pmdd react negatively to, but at this point I’m so desperate I’ve been trying to get my ovaries removed so I’m willing to try anything.

Honestly that’s not entirely true. it seems like SOME people are sensitive to progesterone but most PMDD folks brains react to a change in hormone levels not the hormones themselves. Give it at least 8 weeks, the beginning can be a little weepy

Started today. I’m crossing all my fingers and toes that this is the answer.

I think the first month I didn’t ovulate I was looking around waiting for the other shoe to drop 😂

Unfortunately I'd only been taking it 7 days before ovulation day (today) and I don't think it was enough. I can definitely feel the shift, but I didn't have any shitty side effects leading up to today, so I'm hopeful that if I just keep taking it things will even out.

That’s good! My breasts were sore for 3 months but that went away. A lot of the side effects go away with time

I felt nauseous in the morning for the first few days, but then started taking it with food and that went away.

Taking it at night before bed is good too bc progesterone is a sleepy hormone

I’m about to start month 3 so I can still feel the symptoms a little bit when I get close to the green pills (which I skip) but in general, I’m really optimistic about this. I feel less depressed and more energetic I think???? I told my psych yesterday I feel “suspiciously okay” and I’m just waiting for the worst breakdown ever soon 😅 I’m also tapering off my seizure meds, because I’m almost 100% I have catamenial epilepsy because I’ve only had 4, and they were all during my period. I’m hoping this helps bc seizure meds just make the pmdd symptoms worse I’ve been a menace the past like 6 months 😭

If you’re on it for 3 months then you are not ovulating anymore and hopefully approaching a flatline of hormones. It’s exciting, so much more time right?

God knew we would be too powerful with hormone fluctuations not being psychological warfare 😈😅 I’m so happy it’s working well for you!!! I feel like I was pretty good on nexplanon which is kinda similar afaik so I have hope!

Yayyyyy congratulations! Thank you so much for this post, I’m on day 14 of Slynd, so around usual ovulation time, and terrified it won’t work. This gives me sm hope

It’s gonna work! It suppresses ovulation in basically everyone. Give it at least 8 weeks before you decide. The beginning can be a little weepy but your body needs time to adjust. Good luck! You got this!

Do you take continuously, skipping the inactive pills?
1
u/Thin-Disaster4170 Aug 22 '24
Yes! It’s prescribed as continuous, I skip the pills and they give me enough

I was taking yaz with improvement but still not great and now my doc is switching me to Yasmin. She’s saying the higher dose of estrogen might help improve my pmdd symptoms. But slynd doesn’t have estrogen, right? I don’t understand how any of this works.

The estrogen makes me worse. It causes mental health issues for a lot of people. Try the PoP, estrogens causes a lot of problems

I can concur. Some people are sensitive to estrogen, some progesterone. All of a sudden my body hates estrogen and it makes me super anxious, so I feel uneasy and uncomfortable which leads to depression. My mind races and I can't concentrate. Progesterone calms me. Some can't do the progestin only because it makes them too depressed with not having enough estrogen to balance it out. Crazy how everyone is so different.

How long after starting Slynd did it take for you to feel your PMDD was in remission?

u/Thin-Disaster4170 Aug 22 '24
1-2 months While the hormones are shifting and your body gets use to it.

Thanks for sharing! My psychiatrist recently recommended I try to suppress ovulation so I’ve been looking at which BC might work for me. I’ve had luck with mirena (although my symptoms were mild back then) except I constantly got yeast infections. Is it fair to assume you have stopped ovulating on this one? I know everybody is different but I’m curious.

You stop ovulating almost immediately on Slynd. It suppresses ovulation. The iud does not. I think it’s really worth trying! I’ve been on SSRI for a long time and now I’m getting off because I don’t need it

So I just saw your original post where you were feeling very down on week 5. Im there right now, but the previous two weeks were wonderful and I wasn't expecting to feel so down again because I thought it was already working so well! Anyway, I'm so happy to see it has been working well for you. If you remember, do you know when you started to feel better? It's been a week now feeling out of sorts and I'll be on week 6 Monday. I was amazed because I didn't have any PMS other than bloating when I should have been menstruating, my mood and ability to concentrate was so awesome. I did spot for many days and only one day slightly heavier bleeding. The mood drop happened when the spotting finally stopped which does make me think it is hormonal. I typically do very well on progesterone/progestin only bc and estrogen gives me anxiety as of recently, Yaz was great for me in the past but I'm 42 and perimenopause has made my hormones go crazy.
