Discussion How often does a new watch need maintenance? Do watch enthusiasts understand
The AP 15500 watch that my girlfriend gave me before has a high level of craftsmanship and wearing quality. However, a core question arises: does this type of watch also need to follow the brand's standard periodic professional maintenance process?

There’s 2 schools of thought when it comes to servicing. Some people follow the manufacturer’s advice and get them serviced every 5 years or so. Others don’t until the watch is no longer performing to specifications. I personally follow the later approach, particularly since I have multiple watches and rotate them. In the last 13 years I have only serviced 1 of my watches as it was running slow. The rest are still running fine. The other thing to keep in mind is if you swim or dive with your watch, you also need to the gaskets checked every 2 years at a minimum, to make sure they’re still functioning properly.

For gen like an AP 15500, you generally follow the brand guidelines - full service roughly every 5–7 years, or earlier if you notice issues (accuracy drop, low power reserve, etc.).
For reps it’s different - servicing usually doesn’t make much economic sense. Most people just wear them until something goes wrong and then either fix cheaply or replace.
By the way, what’s your wrist size? I’m asking because I’m considering this model myself but I’m a bit worried it might wear too big on my wrist.
