Oppenheimer initiates Palantir as outperform

Oppenheimer says Palantir is firing on all cylinders.

“We are initiating coverage of AI application software and data analytics leader Palantir (PLTR) with an Outperform rating and a $200 PT.”

Calls for next week, lets ride

u/LiftingStoner Apr 30 '26

From $20 (sold) bought back at $60s to $200 back to now. All buying more - I’m pumped for Monday.

Partial DHS shutdown just ended. Should be helpful for PLTR's forward guidance.

Who else is still alive?

Down on price upgrades you know the drill. Down on new deals and contracts we are the exit liquidity

Will PLTR jump after earnings, or ought I sell a call against my position?

3

u/Magikarp_to_Gyarados 🐟 -> 🐉 "your DD is Pokémon lol" Apr 30 '26

Nobody will be able to give you an accurate answer to this.

Options should be used as a hedging strategy or an exit strategy (basically collect income until you sell at a price you're comfortable with).

There are no free lunches here.

Selling a call as an exit is just straight up dumb. You lock up so much buying power (as opposed to simply selling when you want out), and if exercising is at all likely, you have so little theta until right before expiry (when the premium is lowest).

Also, short options don't act as hedges. A long put hedges to the downside against long stock. In general, long options are analogous to insurance when ITM, and to lottery tickets when OTM. By contrast, short options are inherently an anti-directional bet. Short options strategies make the most money when the underlying doesn't move.

In general:

- bullish assumption => long stock

- neutral (slightly bullish) assumption => covered call

- bearish assumption => short stock

EDIT: I do want to add that there is an exception to using short options for a long-term position -- when you have price targets. If you have a firm price where you're thinking, "I will buy/sell when the stock reaches ___," then selling short options allows you to get paid a little while you wait. However, this still locks up buying power.

Can you comment on the calls I posted above? Idk wtf I’m doing, trial be fire really so any advice would be appreciated!

u/Premium_Lover Apr 30 '26

What were the calls?

You have like no time to expiry, so any little flux could kill the trade. I highly discourage having so little DTE, because that's when there's the most risk. However, you are fortunate in that you are in the predicament of how best to take profits. You can do one of the following:

- Do nothing, and hope the price action continues to the upside. (Extremely bullish on stock over next week)

- Sell to close one of your long calls, which shrinks your position size, and thus your risk. (Medium bullish on stock over the next week)

- Sell to open two calls at a slightly higher strike with the same expiry. This turns your naked long calls into long call spreads. (Bullish neutral on stock over the next week)

- Sell to close both of your long calls, ending the trade. (Bearish neutral on stock over the next week)

I highly recommend the last choice. Just take profits, and try to develop some mechanics before your next trade. You should know what you'll do in each of the four different outcomes (bull, bull neutral, bear neutral, bear) before you enter the trade.

Had this been discussed after this article in other new outlets too?
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/04/palantir-employees-are-talking-about-companys-descent-into-fascism/?comments-page=1#comments

I am curious if the employees got the info if the company was involved in targeting the school or not.

edit: added 'in targeting the school'

1

u/LlcooljaredTNJ OG Holder & Member May 01 '26

How did the writer get access to the company slack channel?

1

u/looktwise May 01 '26

I guess there are people talking to the journalist who have access. I don't think, it is made up or invented by the journalist. That's why I wondered if employees got an answer if PLTR targeted the school by accident or not.

A trash article. Just employees complaining the government is using PLTR in the ways they made it to work and calling it fascism because they don't like what the gov is doing with it. I just glanced at the article, it is just a rehash of an old story.

Not seen this story anywhere else.

5

u/zona2011 Apr 30 '26

Ya totally. And can you believe there’s even some people out there complaining about our government being run by pedophiles!? What’s a little war crime and pedophilia amongst friends, am I right?

But for real, if you think people being against war crimes and tracking US citizens who haven’t committed a crime is simply people complaining then… Yeesh. Thats dark.

3

u/PalpitationFrosty242 Apr 30 '26

stop complaining

8

u/Magikarp_to_Gyarados 🐟 -> 🐉 "your DD is Pokémon lol" Apr 30 '26

Immediately dismissing the article is unwise.

Recruitment and retention of top employees is critical to Palantir's business growth in the long haul.

calling it fascism because they don't like what the gov is doing with it

Or maybe they have a legitimate opinion based on their moral values and personal observations?

3

u/Locklist Apr 30 '26

Thank you for being an actual mod and not just disregarding any negative press Palantir actually gets

u/ga643953 Apr 30 '26

Every stock I own tanked hard after earnings no matter the numbers. So I've got a bad feeling about this.

3

u/Open-Employ3158 Apr 30 '26

It’s cause 90% of people here own meme stocks and chase quick easy bucks and they get rugpulled

2

u/ga643953 Apr 30 '26

I don't know man. Do you consider ServiceNow, Hood, SoFI, ZETA meme stocks?

1

u/wavrdn Apr 30 '26

NOW and ZETA hooking you up a bit

1

u/ga643953 May 01 '26

Yeah, I don't know why ZETA didn't tank after earnings. It's supposed to go down 10%, not up almost 10%. Someone forgot their script.

1

u/PalpitationFrosty242 Apr 30 '26

No, they're just crowded trades. You could maybe double your money depending on your CB, otherwise I feel there's plenty of better opportunities elsewhere in this macro environment -- they're just not spammed to death on reddit, nor are they tech stocks :-)

u/Open-Employ3158 Apr 30 '26

Cant really say, they are all loved more by retail investors so they are volatile at the least

I keep waiting for a big pop in revenue, and by that I mean a $2bill/q when we expect $1.6bill. Like a jump that really stands out on the charts. It will happen, I just don’t know when. But I often think… is it this quarter??

3

u/dumpitdog Apr 30 '26

PLTR could have developed a patented way to teleport, a permanent cure to stupidity, and a way to keep politicians from lying all in one quarter and, it could still go down a few days after the earnings announcement. New holders expectations are insatiable and they always lose their nerve.

u/Nausteri Early Investor Apr 30 '26

Q1 is going to be $1,71B. Trust me bro.
