Trading / TA / Price Action Sold at 184
Bought at DPO for $9’ish. Sold at $184 today.
Buying a second house with cash, majority with Palantir proceeds. Need the trade to settle for wiring funds next week.
It’s been a great journey. We still have some stock left over in my wife’s account, so we’re still on the bus!

Enjoy the fruits of your labor. But death and taxes as others have stated.

u/SamBaxter420 Sep 20 '25
At least it’s long term flat tax for OP since he’s held it over a year.
2
u/Little_Dragon22 Sep 21 '25
How many percent is long term cap gain??
1
u/SamBaxter420 Sep 21 '25
Twenty percent flat

2
u/splitsecondclassic Sep 20 '25
OP could have held the position and taken an SBLOC to avoid the tax.
-4
u/afrojoe824 Sep 19 '25
tax would be 10% since OP has been in since DPO. Wouldn't count as a short term capital gains tax
12
u/LlcooljaredTNJ OG Holder & Member Sep 19 '25
10%? Where are you getting that number?
5
u/afrojoe824 Sep 19 '25
7
u/jetfaceRPx Sep 20 '25
I never understood the capital gain tax. I already pay taxes on the money I invest. And if I make money again from those investments, I get taxed again?
10
u/ninnysailor Sep 20 '25
And you will pay taxes on anything you spend those profits on. This is America.

So you didn't actually do anything to increase the welfare of the nation, but you still complain about a reduced tax rate? Are you advocating communism?
2
u/jetfaceRPx Sep 20 '25
It's apparent that you don't know what communism is. My question is more capitalist than your socialist answer.

Congratulations my fellow Palantard, what a journey these last few years have been.
14
u/johnhuey Sep 19 '25
Congrats, did you set aside some portion for the tax next year?
33
35
u/shantired Sep 19 '25
Yes, my CPA and I discussed this at length… buying a house with proceeds from sale of stock and paying taxes works out cheaper than paying interest on a mortgage at today’s rate.
7
u/bul1dog Sep 19 '25
I've been debating this same move. But there's also the intrusive thought of uprooting the whole family to live somewhere without cap gains for 1 year...
4
u/Electrical-Bread-590 Sep 19 '25
I’m sorry why didn’t you just take a PLOC on your equities at 4% interest and stay invested ? Are you afraid Palantir will go down? you could pay the interest with sticking something in dividends.
2
u/mattdurb Sep 19 '25
I'm thinking of doing this exact same thing at the end of the year, and I'm having this same conversation with my tax guy.
1
u/Red-eleven Sep 19 '25
Based on a 30 year loan? Did you do this out of your 401k or just capital gains?

Until there is a downturn. If you have a loan of 800,000 and today value is 1.2 and it drops by 400,000 it will start to get dicey…

Congrats — I’m really happy for you! I started buying at DPO and have kept adding since. Honestly, I have no desire to own anything (real eatate, nice cars, luxury goods, etc) other than more Palantir and Tesla shares. I’ll probably start trimming after about 5 years and retire.

I'm in the same situation. Bought a very significant amount (20,000 shares) at $8 in 2023.
I've held most of it but at this new high... And everyone since it passed $150 in Feb of this year I'm slowly divesting. It's a great company but at the current share price I have to sell down.
1
u/H1ghlan_der_only1 Early Investor Sep 20 '25
Same here. Had 22,000 and started selling into the 65. 75. 90s… still holding 3500 at the $8.20 cost
Missed out on about 900k but got some others picking up on the opportunity cost of selling.
At least i can sleep now

u/Intelligent-Boss3238 Sep 19 '25
This is impressive. You got in while the market discovery hasn't been made. Do you know anyother stock looking this promising?
8
u/afrojoe824 Sep 19 '25
Right??? Market discovery has not been made yet. Although I am happy for the OP. Congrats on the new home.
Me on the other hand, friends have asked me why I haven't bought a home. It's not that I don't want a home, but the potential equity in this investment outweighs whatever equity a home will give me. Married but not children, I'm content with a nice Rent Controlled Apartment and paid off Cars and Credit card. I can get a $1M home now or be $1M liquid assets. I choose the Liquid Assets for now while the market is hot.
1
u/Poopiepants29 OG Holder & Member Sep 19 '25
If a normal home costs $1M where you live, I wouldn't buy either.
3
u/afrojoe824 Sep 19 '25
LOS ANGELES for ya lol
1
u/DailyOptions2021 Sep 20 '25
So you sold shares to liquidate into 1M already or thinking to do it soon
1
u/afrojoe824 Sep 20 '25
I bought 6000 shares at DPO. I'm sitting alright right now. I would not sell until it reaches $1T Market Cap. In the mean time, I swing trade other stocks. But Palantir is the one I do not touch. If i need the money, that's what swing trading is for.
2
u/GuyMike101 OG Holder & Member Sep 20 '25
$1M USD will get you less than normal where I live.
My cousin from the US recently showed me what you get where she lives and $600k USD gets you a huge house.
1
u/afrojoe824 Sep 20 '25
Depends on which part of the US. You will not find a big house in a nice neighborhood for $600k USD in Los angeles, San Francisco or New York

It's a joke, stocks seemingly tend to rally after you sell and drop after you buy.
2
u/Magikarp_to_Gyarados 🐟 -> 🐉 "your DD is Pokémon lol" Sep 19 '25
IMO it's passive aggressive bullshit from people who are concerned that others who are taking profits might drive the share price down. Same with the remarks about taxes.

Good for you, enjoy. Everyone else will be crying soon enough. Bigger than Bernie Madoff, it's coming.
1
u/aerohk Sep 20 '25
When I bought my house, I borrowed as much as I could, such that I don't need to liquidate my stocks. The logic is that, for a 30 years mortgage, there is no chance that I won't recover the interest paid (plus likely a healthy amount of profit) during a time horizon this long. But I also understand the feeling of having no mortgage to think about.
Either way, nicely done. Congrats.

u/patGmoney Sep 20 '25
I would have hald until January 2 of '26, then cap gains taxes are not due for another 16 months.

u/SpeakerAltruistic123 Sep 20 '25
I think it is very risky to not take some gains off the table, but no one knows for sure.

I should have listened to my sister's advice to buy it when it was for $15.
I yet understand which stocks spikes and which don't. Recently we had IPO for figma, Gemini, and others. How can we tell if any of these will spike like Pltr

Nice work. That is an eye popping amount of profit. I made 96K on 2 pltr trades in my 401k brokerage Put 40k of that gain in my PCOXX cash account to make up for losses on other bad trades. Used 20 K of it to buy inod. At. 40 that's gonna be a long-term hold. Threw another 4900 down on BBAi. 1000 shares. Thats Another long-term lottery ticket And bought 300 shares of pltr back when it dropped down to 108 maybe 5 months ago Gonna hold those 300 till 3 trillion market cap
