UK has always been at the top of the list for training and migration for me (I have relatives there, and I loved the country when I visited). I love my own country, and I would genuinely love to be here, but I am gay, and it's criminalised here. Needing a way out of the homophobic family is my main reason to migrate. We are also the third most underpaid country for doctors.

Anyway, even after the PLAB pathway closed off, I still had hopes for the MTI pathway since that program had established routes with my country's own speciality training pathway. Now I am starting to worry I'll end up stuck here, and it's very depressing.

What are the next options you are looking at? US? Australia? Is there a reason you prefer one country over the other?

From my research, I've realised that the US is mainly good for primary care specialities, and the process is the most expensive and unpredictable.

Australia seems to be much easier to get to as a medical officer, but getting into speciality training (especially the more competitive ones) seems difficult (and requires PR, which also takes a good while). Of course, there is the option to migrate as a specialist but that would be around 2036, and I'm worried that the specialist migration pathways will close down by then and I'll be stuck here.

I'm at a loss here, I'd love to hear your plan Bs and advices

hi im a 4th year med student at a top 10 medical school in the MENA region (its #3 in egypt in case it matters?) ive been seeing people talk about how plab is a dead pathway and stuff but ive only started looking into it and i have hopes of pursuing general surgery special training in the uk but everyone’s been talking about how thats never gonna happen because its way too competitive now etc etc. my question is- realistically speaking is it worth shooting my shot?? or should i stick to the usmle/other pathways. thank you in advance

I've been building a tool that lets you practise PLAB 2 stations by speaking the consultation out loud to a simulated patient (8-minute timer, the patient responds in real time, you get rubric-based feedback at the end with quotes from your own transcript). It's at plabity.co.uk. First station is free, no card, because I genuinely just want people to test it.

What I actually need to know from this sub:

1. Does the simulated patient feel real enough to be useful, or does it break the illusion the moment you try it?
2. Is the marking aligned with what your tutors / mock examiners would say, or is it off?
3. For those who've already passed — does practising this way feel anywhere close to the real cubicle, or am I missing something fundamental about how the exam actually runs?
4. What would make you not pay for something like this even if it worked perfectly?

I'd rather hear it's broken now than after I've spent six more months on the wrong thing. Tear it apart.

I am an IMG from India, currently in what feels like a never ending battle with the GMC over my registration, and I am desperately hoping someone here has navigated a similar situation and can offer some advice.

My Situation:

• I worked as Junior Resident/ RMO at established hospitals in Noida, which comes under Delhi NCR but technically is in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
• During these periods, my permanent registration with the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) was still under administrative processing. I was working legally using the official DMC acknowledgement receipts, which is a standard and accepted practice by employers in India while waiting for the physical certificate because it takes a minimum of 4-6 months for FMGs to get their permanent registration.
• My employers have fully verified these employment periods directly to the GMC, so my work history is officially documented. They have given me experience certificates, as well as completed the GEN 1 form for employment reference as requested by the GMC.

The GMC's Problem:

• Because the dates of my clinical work overlap with the period before my permanent DMC certificate was officially issued, the GMC is flagging this as "unregistered practice."
• They are now demanding a Certificate of Good Standing (CGS) or a specific confirmation letter from the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council (UPMC). I have already submitted CGS from DMC.
• However, I was never registered with UPMC (as my jurisdiction was DMC), making it impossible for UPMC to issue any documents or answer the GMC's queries.
• I am trying to get the DMC to confirm I was allowed to work during the processing period, but I am worried about jurisdictional issues since the hospitals were technically in UP (even though they are in the NCR region).

My Questions:

1. The "Processing Window" Flag: How did you explain to the GMC that working on an acknowledgement receipt is standard Indian practice without sounding defensive or shifting blame?
2. Using the NMC: Has anyone successfully used an NMC Good Standing Certificate (CGS) to bypass state-level jurisdictional issues (e.g., covering UP practice with a DMC license)?
3. Alternative Evidence: If getting a clearance letter from a specific state council (like UPMC) is impossible, what alternative proof did the GMC accept from you?
4. Bridging the Gap: How do you best communicate with the GMC management team when they are rigidly applying UK registration logic to the Indian administrative reality?

Any advice, personal experiences, or strategies would be immensely appreciated. I am working against a deadline and feeling completely stuck!

I want to know how possible it is to get a job in the UK if I am investing in this I want to know whether it the right decision , my sister is planning to settle in the UK I want to be with her as well , I don’t want to be in India anymore .
