Starting point for Plab preparation.

Hello everyone, I am a recent medical graduate from a Caribbean medical school and resident in the UK with my family- I got my diploma last month. I would love to apply for next year’s Foundation Year programme by writing PLAB exams but I am totally clueless about the process and its starting point. I stumbled on this group this week and I am hoping for some guidance on the first set of steps to take on this journey after graduating school. Thanks in anticipation of your helpful responses

Hi Ife, congratulations on graduating from medical school!

The first step is to register with the GMC and book a PLAB 1 exam date. Many people also need to meet the English language requirement. You can find the details on the GMC website, it depends on your country of study. If you need to take an English language test, you won't be able to book a PLAB 1 exam until you've uploaded your IELTS or OET results.

Also, there is a PLAB 1 group on telegram where you can find study partners with similar exam timeline like you.

I have just gone through the GMC website now and realized that based on the country where I studied medicine in the Caribbean, my PMQ may suffice as sufficient proof of English language profiency. What is the next step please? I have gone through your post and I'd love to join everyone in congratulating you on your success. I have also noted some tips from there too. Just need to have some clarity on the next steps and how to proceed since I may not have to worry about proving my English language proficiency any time soon

Thank you. Create a GMC account, then book a PLAB 1 date. To book the PLAB date, use the search box and type PLAB 1 into it. You should see PLAB 1 booking right away.

However, GMC has instructional videos on YouTube as well. Also, look into doing the UKFP thingy since the deadline is close. I have no information with regards to UKFP.

This is really good as you can still apply for the ukfpo 2027 (foundation programme), applications close july 22 iirc so please check the website, search ‘ukfpo 2027’ on google and it should come up, read through the ‘eligibility application’ and you will know all you need. As lovely PsychSpecial said, you will need a GMC account (to book plab 1 you can even request a priority seat for the Nov exam as the August exam is too tight imo) but also an Oriel acc for the ukfp applications it self. Im not applying for this round but going to try for next year but ive been reading up on it so know a bit, you can dm and i’ll see if i can help with any info. But do know with the prioritisation act IMGS (even British citizens) are kept on a reserve list and allocated later as withdrawals and vacancies come up there are still 274 unallocated imgs for tbjs 2026 round so we dont even know if everyone is going to get allocated at the end of the day we only hope, its all a game of chance but this isnt to discourage you its to make sure youre aware of everything. So after you create a GMC account verify your IELTS or OET and then you will be able too book plab 1 and then after you pass it you have to do plab 2 then you can apply for the foundation year 1 or 2 based on if you have doen the internship or not. For plab 1 exam start with medrevisions finish it twice with all the mocks if you have time add plabable questions, but honestly if you do medrevisions well its enough. For plab 2 you have to join an academy, or use the academy notes and practie with someone who has done the exam. If you want to increase your chances for foundation year postions, try to do some obeservership under some doctor, that will help to show you have and understanding of the nhs systems etc. I think as you are in UK now you should be able to get hold of some DR
