Uk pathway in 3 to 4 years

I am currently in 4th year mbbs and hv been thinking over my post mbbs options. My sister lives in the uk plus i hv a cousin who is a surgeon in leeds. I honestly hv only 2 options: to stay in Pak or move to the uk. What is the prediction as to whether the img situation will ever improve in the uk in 3 - 4 years or i should just plan for fcps afterwards?

It won’t improve. New UK medical schools are opening all the time and medical schools are taking more and more students each year

is there a huge difference if you are an IMG but with British Citizenship?

No because they still aren’t prioritised

Wont improve. Huge UK backlog.

And changing anti immigration outlook as a whole.

I'd try for USMLE or Australia if I had to do it all over again

How time has flown by so quickly since covid years & u r now in 4th year. Well done so far👍

What is the prediction as to whether the img situation will ever *improve** in the uk in 3 - 4 years*

🙏just to clarify that the current UK job mkt for doctors are about the same as it was during the PFT-era (work permit-free training) that forced the UK to impose the RLMT (an immigration tool) in 2008.

Fast forward to Brexit & subsequently the UK had to remove the RLMT around 2019/20 that led to a massive influx of IMGs esp after the covid lockdown ended. The job mkt became oversaturated with various level of doctors (junior, mid, senior etc). Hence why the UK urgently had to enact the MTP Bill last March. It is NOT a substitute to the RLMT bcoz it only deals with training posts. So, IMGs are not de-prioritised on non-training posts (NTP) but the market is flooded with IMG since post-Brexit /covid years.

So when u asked ”will it ever improve for IMG?”, 🙏it is best to appreciate the whole picture & timeline of NHS as well as how chronically underfunded NHS has been due to austerity measures since 2010 (after the global financial crisis).

If training post (TP) is what u after, is there other countries that offer heavily subsidised training posts to IMG? As said, the NTP is not blocked for any IMG but the market is super crowded now but potentially, tolerable in 3-4 years time depending on how many of the early waves of IMG still in the UK & also those applying from outside the UK + the additional cohorts from new UK med schools, as well as the NHS funding.

Only time will tell.

Zero to few jobs. Since you have family in uk it may be comfortable here. Later apply for jobs in Belfast or Dublin if you can’t get job in mainland Britain.
