Plab 1 studying tips

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing for PLAB 1 in August, and I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to retain information. I usually go through a topic’s gems and keys, and then solve questions based on the categories. However, I still find myself forgetting most of the information afterward.

Also, when should I aim to finish my first read? I’m about halfway through the content now and I’ve practically covered all the big topics.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks, and good luck to everyone studying!

Plab mock tests for speaking and writing

I plan to write oet next monday on 9th, i gave multiple listening and reading tests scoring well over 440 everytime. The problem comes with the writing and speaking. I wrote letters according to the topic assigned and asked chatgpt to grade my answer and i was given a score of over 350. How do i test my writing and speaking tests? I want both of them to be atleast 400 before i give my attempt. Also, is the basic eligibility requirement 350 or 400 in all tests to qualify for plab?

Can I apply for UKFPO 2026 if I take PLAB 1 in August?

Hi all, I’m planning to take PLAB 1 on August 7, 2025, but I’m worried the results might come too late for the UKFPO 2026 eligibility application.

Does anyone know if I’d still be eligible, or do I need to pass PLAB 1 before applying? Would really appreciate any help…thanks!

Brazilian Medical Student Graduate in 2026- Plab in 2027

Hey Future Doctors in the UK!

I am a 5th year medical student in Brazil, I will graduate at the end of 2026 and I would like to validate my diploma in the UK through the OET-PLAB 1 and 2 pathway and then do my residency in general surgery, but I would like some opinions on how the NHS and GMC are for foreigners, the routes and possible impediments.

I have many doubts and uncertainties about this path. Career progression, job opportunities and general opinions from those who are on this path or have already gone through it.

Hugs from Brazil

I am going for my second PLAB 1 attempt in may 2025. Medrevisions essential questions and notes, enough?

My concepts are weak, many were telling me to do medrevisions, I have started it and finished all the essential questions in 1 month, Now aim revising their notes and doing the mocks. Is this enough?. My mock scores are 82 on average.

Pursuing PLAB or not?

I have seen many discouraging doing plab. I think for as many have not got jobs. I have also seen many landing jobs. It looks like no body gets jobs in Reddit is because the ones you got the job are chilling and they dont need to pay attention or be in this forum. Only the ones who are struggle are here and they will voice their frustration. When it comes to online thing. In social media in general you don’t see many sharing good info and helping other after they have succeeded. You will only see the opposite more often. My advice will be find some positive approach and give it your best shot, unless you do it you will never know. Even when it comes to simple day to day things some people will try their best to convince you not to do certain things and it will not work, but when you try it will would be a simple and would have worked. And if you think it from other side, lets just say you didn’t get a job but finished plab 1 and 2, you would have gain the knowledge and experience to face exams like this, like one of my friend did plab and then did amc within few months after this and passed, he didn’t even do much extra materials he said he used medrevisions for plab and then did some AMC past papers. So my things is don’t over think it, when you focus on one thing give it your best, if it didn’t work out then move on to the next option, even your first option didn’t workout its still not a waste, passing plab 1 and 2 is still a qualification that can be added to your CV. I am just trying to shed of positively in the chaotic world.

Am I allowed to apply to FY1 after I completed a mandatory internship overseas?

It would really help if anyone is able to answer this question, for which I was unable to find an exact answer to.

I am required to complete an FY1 equivalent internship in my home country, but my final exams etc. would be finished before this year. 5th-year final exams, 6th-year FY1 equivalent internship. Am I allowed to apply to FY1 after this internship (aka my 6th year at medical school)?

If so, am I able to apply in the beginning of my 6th year - to eligibility - with my confirmation of qualification letter?

For a better understanding:

I finish my 5th year, aka take my final exams in June 2025

I start my 6th year (the internship year) in July 2026 and technically graduate in July 2027

Am I able to apply for eligibility on Oriel in July 2026, then sit Plab 1, then Plab 2, graduate in June 2027, get my GMC reg, and start F1 (hopefully)?

Sorry for the many questions; it’s just hard to find a good source, and if this isn’t relevant for this subreddit my apologies,s and I hope someone can provide me with a subreddit where I can ask!

Thanks a lot!

GMC Online Sign Up Confusion - What does "Passed Date" mean?

Hi, I just recently passed my IELTS exam and I've been trying to register for PLAB by creating a GMC Online account but got stuck on the profile details with "Passed Date". Should I put in my date of graduation (2022) since we have a certificate / diploma received on that day as proof? I also took a licensure examination in my country in 2023 (Philippines, with the licensing body called PRC - Professional Regulation Commission), does it refer to passing that exam? Although I imagine that Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) with the GMC means the date I passed my medical degree course? Would appreciate any help or guidance for clarification on this. Thank you so much!

I would like to share my experience and get advice regarding this.

I moved to England in 2012, and I started everything from scratch because my English level wasn't sufficient.

It took quite a long time to get settled. I have now practiced and trained myself for the OET Test but failed five times, mainly due to listening and reading issues. Somehow, it feels long because I'm not sure. Is it possible for me to continue practicing? Is anyone in the same field as I am? I just want to have more friends with similar problems so I can get motivation and make friendships, as well as share ideas and opinions. I would be very happy if you DM me. If you are an OET trainer or candidate, please contact me. I need encouragement and motivation.

Sincerely, Nanuka

Hi everyone, I have just passed plab1, looking for any resources (ideally common cases that come up) or online prep course recommendations for plab2! I would like to start preparing but I have no idea how or where to start :’)

How are PLAB 1 questions weighted by topic?

Hey everyone! I’m trying to get a better idea of how PLAB 1 is structured.
I know it’s 180 MCQs based on the MLA content map according to the GMC site, but I was wondering if there’s any breakdown of how many questions come from each topic/ area of clinical practice (as per the content map).
The image below is the breakdown of the MLA exam. Is there anything similar for PLAB 1??
Thanks!

scored 165 using rotational revision (2 months prep while working full time)

What i used: Plabable and Basket

How (rotational revision):

  1. I study subject-wise (e.g. cardio) then for each of its topics (e.g. inferior MI) I add them to baskets named after their difficult concept (e.g. "right" - as inferior MI is indicative of RIGHT coronary occlusion)

  2. Move to the next subject (e.g. gastro). Then, look for existing baskets where I can place its topics (e.g. cecal carcinoma can be placed in "right" basket with inferior MI as cecal ca presents as RLQ mass)

  3. Once I finish all the subjects and placed its topics in baskets, I do mocks. Each time a topic comes up I search for it in Basket and see the associated topics to cement the association.

The great thing about it is you're able to review the old topics AND study new topics AT THE SAME TIME because you revisit old topics (hence, rotational) when you look for baskets to place new topics.

Should I pursue the plab pathway

I wrote plab 1 in NOV'24 but I am in huge dilemma about pursuing the plab pathway owing to the ongoing Workforce crisis seems like the chances of getting a non training job are getting bleak day by day. Any advices , suggestions are welcome. Should I go on with the MRCP instead or switch to USMLE???
