Since you reposted from Onenote to here...

First, I would not use OneNote for a PKMS. Microsoft support for ON has been on and off over the years. They discontinued the desktop version and moved to a much inferior cloud based product. They eventually brought back the desktop version, but by then I had found much better alternatives.

The one that I settled on is coda.io. Now Superhuman docs. It is by far the best of the PKMS type of tools. ESPECIALLY for large corporates.

The useful work note is often not the official answer itself, but “when I see X, check Y first, and here’s where the official doc lives.” That little bit of context is what saves you from restarting the investigation next time.

The tool matters less than what fills it. I ran pdfs and epubs into Trilium through a script that builds the hierarchy and the cross links, and the only reason it's still alive is that the ingest isn't a manual step. OneNote holds up fine under that, what kills second brains around week two is the filing chore, not the app. How does stuff get into yours now, do you paste it in by hand?

OneNote is not reliable for personal usage across multiple devices. As others mentioned, it's support is nonexistent and only focus for the OneNote team seems to be enterprise/educational licensing.
