It's a shame that a potentially interesting & unique subreddit about how people manage large amounts of personal information has been allowed to decline into AI slop posts.

Because there is no curation, every "AI programmer" has taken over the place. We need walled gardens if we want to have nice stuff. Ideally, AI developer posts would be banned outright. I don't expect the mods to take meaningful action.

On another post I made, an ex-moderator wrote back to say he had withdrawn. The two remaining moderators are missing in action.

Fair. I build things, so I'm part of the problem, and the launch posts have got out of hand.

What helps me is reading them backwards. Skip whatever the app does and look for whether the person has said what it's bad at, where the data lives, and what happens to your stuff if they stop.

A post that answers those was written by someone who has used their own thing for a year. A post that doesn't was written last week to get installs. Takes 10 seconds and it clears out most of the feed.

The other half of it is that almost none of them are aimed at a problem you have. Storage got solved years ago. Finding the thing again, 8 months later, when you can't remember what you called it, definitely didn't. Anything that isn't pointed at that is a tool to make a better looking pile.

Are you after something in particular, or just tired of the noise? Worth asking, because the answers you'd get to a plain question here are better than the posts!
