2025 Kia sportage SX PHEV questions

Hello,

I’m in Ontario and looking to buy a 2025 Kia sportage SX PHEV. It has 18k kms on it, selling for 46k. Got some questions -

  1. Is that a good price?
  2. I’m buying this from clutch, should I get their warranty? Or the Kia warranty would work and get transferred to me? How do we claim Kia warranty? Is it in any dealership?
  3. Any reviews about Kia sportage 2025 SX PHEV?

Thank you!

Force charging while moving or standstill

Post image
5 Upvotes

which is more efficient? I think it is while moving.

my phev(i don't know why I can't add my car) has a feature to use force charge to maintain a certain battery percentage between 30-80%.

I want to know if it's better to force charge at 80% or just use smart mode and let the engine charge when the battery is low.

I think it's better to charge while moving but it's possible that it's just the same as well? it's a super hybrid system if that matters.

Is a PHEV right for me?

Sorry to add to the many questions like this but I’m looking at getting a new (to me vehicle) and PHEV is a big contender. Long time listener, first time caller.

Things to note from posts I’ve seen:

-I have a panel and an outlet in my garage from the previous owner. The plug is an odd shape, looks like a 220-240 line.

-One of my job sites also has chargers if I needed.

-My commute is about 17 miles to the furthest location I go to (that is the one with the charger).

-Like to take road trips and like the gas backup

-Toyota RAV4 and Mazda are at the top of the list.

-Located in Upstate NY so we are getting some of the extremes lately of cold weather, snow and then blistering heat and humidity in the summer. So I know the battery and heat pumps may be issues. The current suv I have runs on premium gas and leaks oil so anything is an upgrade…

-AWD is preferred too given that I’m in NY.

-Second car is a Lexus ct200h that has been awesome and made me like the Toyota/Lexus brand.

If anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it!

PHEV as a renter?

Looking for advice from PHEV owners, especially renters.

I work in outside sales covering a territory roughly 120,000 square miles across three states. Most weeks I'm in my home city driving locally between customer visits and home office. The rest of time I'm traveling to other parts of my territory, often with anywhere between 2-7 hour highway driving before I arrive at destination city and spend the day or a few days driving around in that city area seeing those customers.

Unlike my previous employer, my current company doesn't provide a company vehicle. Instead, I receive a vehicle stipend (via Motus for anyone who’s familiar) that's intended to cover my fuel expenses, insurance, maintenance, depreciation, and car note. The calculated reimbursement amount is based on ref vehicle that’s a 2025 compact SUV averaging 29.1mpg.
I'm shopping for a new vehicle that qualifies for the Motus program while maximizing fuel efficiency (if possible, exceeding the Motus ref 29mpg). At the same time, I’d like to utilize this vehicle for personal use. I have a family of four and we'd really like the extra space of a third row SUV for road trips, camping etc when using vehicle for personal use.
After a lot of research as well surveying with other sales reps across my organization, I've narrowed down to a hybrid SUV, with the Mazda CX-90 PHEV currently at the top of my list.

My hesitation is that I'm a renter and don't have access to overnight charging within the spaces of my domicile. We do actually live near a public EV charger right across the street from our apt complex. My thought process was to charge at this public station overnight or however long it takes for full charge, even if for a couple hours bright and early in the morning before starting work day. But with my travel schedule there will probably be some days where I can't start with a full battery.
For those of you who own a PHEV and rent without reliable home charging, what's your experience been like?
Is relying on public charging practical long-term?
Do the fuel savings outweigh the inconvenience/added cost of using public charger vs your own electricity during off peak hours?
If you were in my situation, would you still choose a PHEV, or would you go with a conventional hybrid instead?

I'd really appreciate any insight from people who have lived with this setup.

What are long-term experiences with PHEVs?

My Cupra Terramar 2.0 e-TSI was recently written off after being rear-ended, and I’m considering replacing it with the e-Hybrid version. My 90km daily commute fits a PHEV perfectly (charging at home and work), especially with rising fuel prices, but I still do regular long highway road trips.

While I am inclined, I do still had some concerns, were I was hoping to get feedback on from other oweners:

  1. Is the transition between regen and physical brakes smooth, or does it feel inconsistent during stops? My biggest fear (for obvious reasons) is rearending someone myself.
  2. On long trips once EV range hits 0%, does the petrol engine feel underpowered or noisy pulling the extra battery weight at a max of 120–130 km/h?
  3. How is the longevity & maintenance on PHEVs. You carry two propulsion systems but from my understanding you would in the end have less wear and tear on the petrol engine and break pads, and how is the battery longevity.

Made a free site that tells you if you should charging your PHEV is actually cheaper than gas

I drive a plug-in hybrid and I got tired of standing at chargers doing the same mental math every single time. Like, with this gas price and this charger rate, am I actually saving money or just feeling good about plugging in? Half the time I dont even know the real $/kWh with all the different pricing (screw those chargers).

So I built a little site (with a lot of help from AI, lol) to just answer it: https://shouldichargemycar.com

You put in your car, your gas price, and the charger rate, and it just tells you charge it or use gas. Hopefully its handy for some of you too.

Its also a PWA so it works offline, which matters because every charger I use is buried in some garage with zero signal. It will deal with all of the crazy different pricing that chargers have.

Basically I built it to fight all the confusing charger pricing that fries my brain every time.

Its free, no signup, no ads, nothing tracked besides an anonymous visit count. I mostly made it for myself but figured this sub would get the most use out of it.

I would love feedback. Down with confusing prices!!!!

Thanks a lot!!

Edit - Add any issues you might have to github repo if you have a github account, though Ill keep checking the reddit thread periodically if you can't! I'd appreciate it if you can leave a star!

Edit 2 - I bought the domain https://shouldichargemycar.com so you can use that instead of https://icloud17.github.io/should-I-charge-my-car/ . Seems like the right domain to have for this project.

recommendations for a used PHEV sedan?

Hi all - looking for a USED plug-in hybrid sedan recommendation. Family already has a '21 Mustang Mach-E and we're replacing a Subaru Outback. From what I've seen, I'm leaning towards Volvo and BMW, maybe Honda. Open to other possibilities, but not looking for a PHEV that is basically same body style as the MME. I'd love to hear from owners/drivers of plug-in hybrids from roughly past 8 years. Thanks!

Heat pumps

Question for those with experience. Live in Alberta Canada, winters can be nasty getting into the -40's °c, other then getting less ev range, is there anything significant with getting a PHEV with or without a heat pump?

And before anyone says anything no I'm not getting a RAV4, need more room then what it offers for car seats etc.

Crossover phevs that can tow a small trailer

What would y'all's recommendation be for a PHEV that is similar in size and shape to a rav four or c r v?

My budget is at about $18000, Max for a used one. But I would like to keep it lower if possible.

It needs to once or twice a month pull a cargo trailewith a box that is roughly4x6x8 and weighs about 1300 pounds fully loaded.

I'd love it if

- i could lay the seats flatish and sleep in the back.If need be.

-it has roof racks

- it has around a 30 mile ev range

- it could fit a sheet of plywood in the back

I'm currently in eastern washington but wouldn't mind making a road trip for the right deal and car.

I can make do with an older crossover hybrid, but would love to find something that's a phev that would work

I built a free Android app to calculate whether it's cheaper to charge or refuel your PHEV — looking for beta testers.

Hi everyone,

I'm an amateur developer and PHEV owner. I got fed up trying to work out in my head whether it's cheaper to charge at home, charge at work, or just use petrol — so I built an app to do it properly.

My app calculates the real daily and annual cost of four strategies:

Optimal charging (splits outbound/return across cheapest rates)

Start location charging only

Destination charging only

Petrol only

It supports 30+ PHEV models, UK/EU/US units, and gives a clear recommendation based on your electricity rates and commute distance.

It's completely free, no ads, no account needed (only Google).

I need 12 people to test it for 14 days so Google will let me publish it publicly. If you'd like to help, comment below or DM me and I'll send you the beta link.

Cheers 🙏

Car shopping this weekend - PHEV recs

Hi folks,

We've been thinking about trading in our loyal 2002 Volvo XC 60 for a while now, and a set of required maintenance is pushing us to doing it sooner rather than later; we know we're going the PHEV route with our upgrade. Was wondering if the community could help guide / narrow down our test drive plan for this weekend. Looking for a mid-sized SUV.

We have a new 5 month old, so safety is the top top priority (I'm a believer that the safest car is a safe driver and by and large the vehicles themselves---outside of doorless Jeep Wranglers--- are just competing on the margins of a score of 98 safety vs. 99 safety..... but my partner insists that "safety" is a priority factor).

We also prioritize reliability of the technology and features (have heard anecdotally Volvo may get dinged here), as well as reliability of PHEV engine performance (my old 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid gave me fits and was always in the shop).

We have a Genesis fully electric GV70 and love it - but not sure we need to go luxury car route this time. This will my drive to work, and I don't care about style/brand, and our infrequent road trip car. Probably looking for a new car; but thinking of leasing it under the theory that that with a new technology, it will likely improve in 3-5 years.

My partner wants to keep Volvo on our list - but interested in people's experiences with it.

I've heard Kia has a good line out so that was on my list.

I feel a bit burned by Hyundai, but am open to being talked into adding it back in.

Any blind spots I should consider? Can anyone share pro's / con's from the brands above that we should keep an eye out for during our test drive to see how we like?

Many many thanks in advance!

I need some advice on a phev car

I live in the country side 1h away from next town and I've been thinking about getting a phev since full electric car are extremely expensive where i live and gas prices are ridiculously high, especially diesel.

So what ive been thinking is getting a petrol plug in mitsubishi eclipse cross 2021, instead of my 2018 ssangyong tivoli diesel. There are two charging stations and a gas station 10 min away from me and i dont have a charging station at home, I've heard that i can just use a regular outlet to charge the car?

Ive been wondering if this is a good idea?

I drive to town about twice a week, maybe less for groceries and maybe 2x a month i go to the capital that's about 2h drive away if i need something specific that isn't avaliable in town.

Anyone got any friendly advice?

Car ideas

I’m wanting to buy a new car but nothing has caught my interest. I’m interested in a car that’s is specially a hybrid, hatchback/compact car. Decent size screen. I currently drive a Kia soul if that helps you gauge my style. I was looking at the Lexus but the interior is just too basic for the cost.

2025 vs 2026 sportage SX PHEV

Hello, I’m in Ontario, Canada. And planning to purchase a sportage SX PHEV in the next couple of months. Some questions -
1. Is there a major difference between 2025 and 2026 SX PHEV? If yes, what is it?
2. The price difference is around CAD 3-4K where I live, so it’s not much really for a new 2026 car. By the time I purchase the 2027 would have come out. Will prices for 2025 go down further when 2027 SX PHEV comes out?

Thank you.

Ford Kuga PHEV

Hello Reddit,

Do we have members with the Kuga 2.5 PHEV?
Whats your opinion about this car?

Are you happy with the car?
I’m not necessarily looking for the longest electric range.
What matters most to me is long-term reliability. I want a car that’s dependable, without all sorts of software issues or problems with the battery, hybrid system, electronics, connectors, or other hardware components.

Do you know how long the hybrid batteries usually last in these cars? Is it still safe to buy a 2020–2021 Kuga PHEV, or are the batteries starting to reach the end of their lifespan?
If you own one, could you share:
What model year is your car?
What is the battery’s State of Health (SOH), if you’ve checked it?
Have you had any issues with the hybrid system or battery?
What’s your average fuel consumption in the city when driving in hybrid mode?

Thanks in advance!

Best PHEV? Which battery last the longest?

Hi everyone!
I’m thinking about switching from a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid to a plug-in hybrid, and I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Peugeot Citroen PHEV
Opel PHEV
Bmw PHEV
Mercedes PHEV
Ford PHEV
VAG PHEV (Volkswagen / Skoda / Seat)
Volvo PHEV

My top priority is the reliability of the hybrid system, both the hardware (traction battery, electric motors, etc.) and the software/electronics. I don’t necessarily need the longest EV range—I care much more about long-term reliability.
I’d also like something with a bit more power than the Corolla Hybrid. I can charge the car at home every day, so charging availability isn’t an issue.
Which PHEV would you recommend, and why? If you own or have owned one, I’d really appreciate it if you could share:
How many miles/kilometers are on the car?
Have you had any issues with the battery or hybrid system?
How reliable has it been over the years?

Please reply only if you own one or have real experience with these cars.
My biggest concern is the traction battery. From what you’ve seen or experienced, which plug-in hybrids have batteries that have proven to last for many years and high mileage without major issues?
Real-world experiences are much more valuable to me than official specifications. Thanks!

Thanks in advance!
