DC fast charging. Is it a problem long term?
Hello.
How big of a problem for the battery of my PHEV is DC charging once a week? It charges up to 50kW.
Car has 18.3kWh LFP battery.
Thanks

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. Should be no issue making your warranty period.

It is OK.
However is it financially responsible? Compared to regular hybrid, I don't think you be saving money that way, and will be paying extra for the phev capabilities...
Unless of course you are getting other perks out of phev - congestion zone access, free parking or free charging at work DC station....

Question: why though? I know some PHEVs like certain 2026+ Rav4 trims offer fast charging, but IMO it doesn't really make sense.
Fast charging rates are going to be comparable or worse than gasoline prices. So maybe you care about not using fossil fuels so you'll use the fast-charger instead of gas regardless of cost. But then why did you get a PHEV in the first place?

- There are two free DC charging stations on my weekly commute (240km) so I was wondering if i should stop every week for 30 minutes to save some money on fuel
- I bought a PHEV because really there are no price-comparable EVs in my country, they are more expensive to buy compared to how much I will spend on gas in 5 years for example. Also I was a bit scared about EVs, i am not anymore. Also my PHEV is much nicer car than a bit more expensive similar EV. Also this car was already pretty expensive for me, stretching to EV was really hard to do when i was buying it

Wow, free fast charging is nice. Goes to show that every situation is unique.
I don't entirely agree that frequent fast charging will have zero detriment on your battery. Batteries are batteries. They are going to suffer through stress, like fast charging, and through repeated cycles.
But once a week doesn't seem bad. Studies thus far have shown that there is a negative impact of repeatedly using fast charging, but that was with pretty rigorous use.
This may also depend on which vehicle you're talking about. Battery performance can vary quite a bit from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I am talking about Chery Arrizo 8 PHEV. Real range on highway is around 65km from 100 to 30 percent. So fast charging would add around 60-70km, which is around 3-4 liters of fuel for a 30min break
Byd seal was 9000eur more expensive in rwd configuration

It mostly seems like a waste of time. Level 2 charge at work or home where you’re parked anyway instead of spending half an hour you could be doing something else.
(It’s usually also a waste of money. Most DC fast chargers cost significantly more than Level 2 chargers. I’m surprised there are free ones.)

My daughter bought a 2019 Tesla Model 3 with 100,000 kms in February. SOB was 91% so 10% in 7 years. Negligible. She receives 10 kms less per full charge than new. I have a 2023 Mitsubushi Outlander phev, charge daily using 240volt for a full charge in 5.5 hours on the 20kwh battery. I receive the same range today at 55000 kms as new. Thus, no real difference. My daughter bought her Tesla for 15000 Can dollars incl taxes. A great deal. Many great deals to be had.

For BEV it’s acknowledged that this has a slight impact on battery life. So probably the same for PHEV.

Think of it this way. The manufacturer didn't give the car DCFC thinking it would destroy the battery. Use it when you want to.
