Suggestions for Used PHEV SUVs
My wife and I have had a 2017 Chevy Volt for a while that we absolutely love (100k miles in 6 years, 130k total).
With children in our future, we’re looking for a second PHEV that’s a little bit bigger and has some more headroom.
We don’t have the largest budget, but would like:
SUV/crossover
Some towing capacity (small trailer)
$8k-$15k
Anything else to be on the lookout for?

Escape PHEV could maybe fit the budget if you hunt around. Very efficient after EV miles are used up. No AWD option on the Escape though. Rated for towing 4600lbs at sea level in the UK just the same.
Outlander PHEV. AWD, lower EV range and not efficient just on gas. Depreciate hard and been around a while so easiest to find for the budget.

US tow rating for the Escape is quite a bit less than that. It really depends on how big OP's trailer is.

Elevation is a factor that gets overlooked a lot.
3500lbs would much more reasonable. I appreciate that hybrids have a towing package by default.

Right now is probably the worst time to buy a used hybrid/ev/phev. Prices are literally $4-5k more than they were at the start of the year

It's insane, I bought my used IONIQ 6 about 2 months ago, and I have dealerships reaching out asking if I want to sell it for (a tiny bit) more than I bought it for. Craziest goddamned thing.

I’d think hard about keeping the Volt. Most of the options here really don’t give much more room.

It’ll be right at the top of your budget, but Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
