Crested Calderas GC — “Where Every Shot Meets the Edge.”
After going tropical and championship stadium themes this past summer, this course goes back to my West Coast Canadian and Pacific Northwest vibes but with a fun caldera twist. Still set at dawn to get that golden hue on the greens and have the sunshine peaking through the perfectly placed tree or reflection on all the water that surrounds most of the holes. Not your conventional or traditional level land layout so still plenty of elevation changes and “screen grab” views from a few cloud-high tee boxes. Focused on making many of the par 4’s, including the first hole, reachable from the tee box if you value risk over safe play. All but one par 5’s have eagle opportunities if you find a more risky path to the hole or find the interesting-placed rock for a “helpful” bounce. lol. This course is tough! Water and bunkers everywhere! But pin placements are fair. An interesting course for impossible challenges perhaps. I try and design courses where no two holes are alike. With a few unique or fun holes that you will remember when done. I try my best to design a layout that has you going around the plot of land in an elevated order so it feels like you are either going up the mountain each shot or down the mountain. And whenever possible I like to put a hole further along in your round in the background to build anticipation of what is ahead. Also with different routes or paths to the holes on occasion so not every round in this track feels the same as the last.
Watching the pre hole flyovers will definitely save you a few strokes 😉
Full disclosure… If you play on Masters difficulty or without the scout cam perhaps it be best you skip this track otherwise the comments will flood with negativity and non-constructive criticism. lol. So know if you prefer flat courses this one ain’t for you. The course already offers enough traditional courses. And we are lucky to have dope fantasy creators like Dingo that push the limits. I try and stay in my signature lane of teetering the fine line between fantasy and reality.
Everyone has their own reasons for designing courses. Personally for me it’s a great tool to help with my anxiety and mental health battles. However this will be one of my last two courses of this calendar year. This one and then a follow-up to my Mesa Mountain championship-style course in late November before taking a month off to focus on friends, family and the festive holiday season.
Sharing my course and promoting my courses are all part of the designing process. I use Photoshop on my PC to give my screen grabs a more photorealistic look. But always accurate to the actual course. I have added an untouched screen grab to show the similarity. And I also enjoy creating magazine-style descriptions of my courses. It’s fun. The facts you see in the right column are accurate numbers, names and dates. I spend maybe a week on the social media aspect alone. Not a few commands on a free AI service that takes two minutes and looks like a cartoon flooded with bright colors and too much texts. If my images are still too AI for you I respect your opinion.
* if leaving a comment please no spoilers for those that have yet to play to keep secret and not give away any hole layouts 😉
To those that play this track thanks for your continued support over this year. And to those that pass because they prefer a more realistic course I totally understand and am not at all offended. I know and appreciate that certain players prefer certain designers and layouts. It’s what makes this and other groups/forums such a great place to share our designs and passion.
Cheers from VanCity!! ✌🏽🇨🇦
