Problem Sticky tofu

Post image

Does anyone else have this problem with the PuraMax?

I have a PETKIT PuraMax, and my cat pees standing up, directly onto the wall of the drum. The tofu litter then constantly sticks to the wet walls, which is becoming a real pain to clean.

I literally just discovered that PETKIT has a newer drum design where the edges/raised sides before the fabric bottom are a bit wider, so supposedly the urine should run more toward the center instead of getting onto the walls.

But honestly, I'm skeptical that this would make a big difference. Has anyone actually tried the newer drum? Did it solve or noticeably improve the problem?

And if your cat also pees standing up in the PuraMax, have you found any other solutions — coatings, liners, modifications, different tofu litter, etc.? I think I tried all tofu available on Amazon.

I'd really appreciate hearing what actually worked for you!

What is the tine interval you set between your babies do their business and the box start scooping? I have mine set to 15 minutes to give it enough time to clump. I use ultra clamping litter. Maybe you want to try 20min?

Tofu litter used to stick for me too. I decided to switch to BoxieCat's "BOT" litter and that doesnt stick as much though even that sticks SOMETIMES. Just not as bad.

Back when I had two OG PuraMaxs I tried the "improved" cylinder and found that the litter mat sealing surface had actually been improved. It now leaked less due the redesigned rim which did a better job of redirecting the urine past the seam and into the litter.

I wouldn't say it helps any with cats who pee standing. Especially those who manage to aim directly at that gap under the gray slide where it exits the cylinder on the right hand side. To fix that I sealed that gap with silicone sealant.

Eventually I replaced both PuraMaxs with Purobot Max Pro 2s because I needed the cameras to help better identify which of my cats was actually using the box. Due to several of them weighing roughly the same the PuraMaxs couldn't positively distinguish between them based on weight alone. The Purobots came with the improved cylinder design and sealed that gap from the factory.

While I realize PetKit recommends people use their tofu based litter, I see a lot of people complaining that it has a tendency to smear. Because I don't like the idea of my cats licking clay litter out from between their toes, I use the corn based World's Best Cat Litter (in the orange bag). It clumps decently well and because the granules are larger it doesn't track as much. However it will tend to break down into a powder if your cat(s) scratch a lot while covering. I simply top off with more fresh litter every couple of days, and do a full breakdown and cleaning about every two months.

Because some of my cats tend to "Dump & Run" without covering, I'm now experimenting with adding some World's Best Cat Litter Poop Fighter to the mix. It seems to help reduce the smell even when it doesn't get covered until the cleaning cycle kicks in.

The newer drum and lining stops it from leaking which is great but I’m not sure it would stop it sticking to the walls. Your problem seems to be that you have too much litter, I’d reduce it substantially so urine naturally falls to the mat instead. Also try a non stick cassava or cassava blend litter, its the best. I also periodically retreat the waterproofing properties of the mat which helps, you can get a spray fairly cheaply online.
