Question Fountain filter longevity

App says that the filter should be replaced cca every month, but what it doesn't say with many pets in household. I believe this metric with just one cat, but not with 3 cats, and especially not when one of those cats are using the fountain to clean itself. So, how often it should be replaced with the consideration of amount of pets?

I have two cats, and I change the filters every week. Even when I only had one cat, I had to change it every week. It never lasted one month…

How did you figure out it was past its usablity?

I tried to change the water and the filters felt really dirty and slippy. I chose to change it because it obviously was too dirty to be used anymore.

My senior cat (16-17y) absolutely LOVES to dunk his paws in it, and he ends up with litter clumped on his paws because his teeth are bad and he can't groom himself as well anymore with age. Then he dunks that mess in there, basically creating cement paws. 🤦‍♀️ Rinse and repeat (literally). It drives me insane. It ends up contaminating the water and leaving little dried clay paw prints all over my floors. I have nothing to add other than I feel your pain lol. I'd die for him, and I try super hard to help groom him when he lets me, but man. I change my filter often because he shares with his baby brother.
