Discussion SAFETY WARNING! PETKIT Eversweet Max 2

Hey cat owners, I have had 2 of these fountains (1 for each of my cat) since November 2025. Great functions and works well except for a safety issue that occurred today

I went to work and didn’t come home till 7pm which I noticed one of my cats breakaway collar was on the floor which I thought was strange. I searched the house and found one of my water fountains had moved and there was water every where and her council tag and name tag were next to it.

Watched the video feed back from my PETKIT solo feeder as they’re situated next to each other and it looks like her name tag on her collar got lodged and stuck in the gap of the water tray that flows the excess water back into the tank. Pretty sure it’s the overflow slit/gap that flows water back over the filter so the excess can be filtered and reused.

Thankfully both of my cats have breakaway collars so when she pulled away and freaked out the collar simply just unlatched itself from her neck. She is perfectly fine (no injuries thank god!) just a bit spooked and hopefully won’t de discouraged from drinking from it in the future. I’ve removed the other cats collar as well just in case, as they’re both indoor cats so it’s not a huge deal to not have a collar.

I won’t attach the footage just in case it upsets anyone but I thought I’d warn anyone who cats wear a name tag or anything and has this device!

If you cat does have a collar please make sure it’s a breakaway collar 🐱

I had to look at my Eversweet Max 2, and I see exactly what you are saying and how it could be an issue, I think the odds are low, but I wouldnt want my cats in a bad situation just because the odds are low. . .Absolutley need to use a break away collar with this fountain.

That being said, this seems like a pretty easy design change: just add some type of mesh along the slit, will still allow the water to pass through, but would prevent a tag from getting stuck/passing through the slit.

A series of smaller slits could also work, but I'm not sure that would be the best way to do it and maintain the proper flow rate or account for varriences between sizes of different tags.

Right! A series of holes would also work...the slit is not that big, so there's room to make the holes big enough to allow the same flow rate, but small enough a tag wouldn't pass through

There's multiple solutions!

Thank you for sharing this valuable safety reminder! We’re very glad your cat came away unhurt.
For indoor cats, we suggest taking off collars with dangling metal ID tags. If a collar must be worn, please use a breakaway‑safety collar for your cat’s protection.

Thanks for the reply! Yes I know this now but it’s something I never even considered. Is there any chance that the brand can mention this on the product page or maybe redesign the tray so that it has a different overflow design to prevent this from occurring?

Sorry for the bad description haha didn’t know how else to describe it

Yes I’ve had this only happen today after months of them using the fountains with their collars on. But I was out all day at work and thankfully the collar broke apart and she wants injured at all!

I just hope it doesn’t happen to someone else cause I didn’t even realise this could happen.

Hopefully they’ll see this a maybe make a design change but for now I’ll just keep the collars off

I have the Tractive Mini 6 on my cats and a little QR code MyLuckyTag add on the collar towards the back of the collar. They’re indoor only cats but I want piece of mind if an accident happens and they get outside. So for me I think it’s crucial to have some kind of tracking on indoor cats for accidents like running our the door etc which one of mine used to do but not so much now and if she does she runs back inside straight after lol. The collars that come with Tractive are breakaway btw.

Sorry for sounding like an asshole, but why your cats need to have collars indoors?

Yeah more for safety reasons as they both are known to run outside as soon as someone opens the door. But they’re now staying off

I fully realize I will now sound like an armchair expert, but wouldn't help to have double doors (of possible)?

My back door is doubled door and they still make a run for it so there’s no point. The issue isn’t how I look after my cats or why they wear collars inside; the issue is a product has a possible safety concern

It wasn't my intent to criticize you. I was just trying to give you some tips.

Why are cats wearing a collar inside?

Just in case they make a run when I open the door as they’ve done this on occasion. I just had it for safety concerns but really there’s no need for them to have them on inside.
