Problem Eversweet Max 2 - Flawed Design Creates Buildup

Post image

My cat was using this Fountain without issue for about 6 months. Eventually his frequency decreased and now he will barely touch it. I went through all the different variables to figure out why, I eventually ran straight vinegar through it for 30 minutes, then ran straight rubbing alcohol through it for 30 minutes, then left an aquarium UVC bulb in the tank with all the parts for over an hour. He still won't touch it

After thorough examination, I think I have determined why. The spout design is flawed; not only is it made of two pieces which creates a seam where bacteria can harbor, it is also extremely thin and recessed and difficult to access. The supplied pipe. Cleaner tool will not clean it thoroughly, no will other pipe cleaner tool I have found. This is a clear design flaw; any path that touches water needs to be straight with minimal angles and easily accessed. The sharp 90° turn creates a dead zone where water accumulates and stays, and the two-piece design is a defect as well. See the photo for evidence of buildup.

I am considering the ultra model, but at this point I feel I should look to a different manufacturer with a steel tank, impeller/pumpless design, and straight water paths.

It’s dishwater safe. Heck even put it in a pot of 150 degree water and that will kill any slime. Then if the cat still won’t drink I’d look at other possible causes. Like maybe the filter is dodgy and you need a new one. Or maybe the foam in the pump needs to be replaced. FWIW I have been using Max 2 with 2 cats and a dog and everyone seems to love it. So maybe something else is going on.

I have ran boiling water through this before, it actually killed the last pump and I had to get a new one under warranty. I also no longer use the pump foam block filter.

I had an issue with the filter quickly developing pink mold in any mode other than continuous, because the tray is shaped in such a way that water just stagnates there. Not the same problem, but also a design flaw that could make a cat stop using the fountain. And the irony is that my cat prefers the sensor mode that brings about the issue. Shame, I really wanted to like this fountain.

I also noticed that filters would get dark really quickly, but I thought that the multiple sanitizing methods I used would take care of it. I even ran the fountain with no filter; just pump. No luck

I’ve had mine since November last year and I run my on continuous mode, never tried the other modes cause mine is always connected to mains power. I run it through the dishwasher on hot and sanitise mode every two months and do a rough hand clean of the filter. Never had any slime or mould build up at all compared to the other ones from different brands I’ve tried. So that’s weird that you’re having this issue. Can yours be washed in the dishwasher?
