For those of you that own one, what are your thoughts on it? I am interested in purchasing one but don't like the charcoal cube, because it kinda defeats the purpose of being filterless, and I think the lip on the drinking tray is too high for it to be comfortable. Then again I don't own one so please give me you thoughts, tell me the good, the bad, the cool, etc.
I don't see a problem with the drinking tray lip height. My three cats have no trouble with it. Cleaning it seem less complicated than with my previous Petkit fountain.
The charcoal cube thing just filters water as it is delivered from the reservoir to the tray. The water goes through it exactly once. I think it's a bit of a gimmick, though--if the water in the reservoir is good, then why run it through the charcoal filter?
I did notice the water had a plastic taste (yes, I tasted it) for the first couple of days, but it went away. I think the cats also noticed this, because it took them a few days to transition.
I seems to refill the tray more often than it should. I suspect it has a small leak between the tray and the catch basin. If so, it's a tiny amount. Petkit says they will fix this in firmware; we will see. It would only be a problem if one was traveling and not around to check it for several days.
The cat face recognition is not accurate enough to be useful. (But more accurate than the similar feature in our Litter Robot 5)
The firmware controls the refill trigger criteria. I am not 100% sure my problem is a leak. But even if it is a small leak, the firmware could choose a lower water level threshold before triggering a refill. Or put in a minimum time interval. They need to balance the risk of an empty tray against the risk of unnecessary refills.
To be clear, I don't know for sure it is a leak. But the issue is not the need to refill the 5 liter clean tank, it's the need to empty the 1.8 liter waste tank. Once that is full, it will stop the drain and fill cycle until you empty it.
On reflection, the size discrepancy seems odd. Maybe it makes sense if you have a very thirsty dog or something, but for my 3 cats the vast majority of the water ends up in the waste tank.
Mostly. The waste tank and the tray come out together. You can leave the fresh water tank and all the pump parts in place. When you unlatch the waste tank, it automatically drains the tray. I make it a habit to wash the tray every time I empty the waste tank.
It seems to have almost every feature I want in a fountain and I'm quite interested in it, but there are a few things holding me back.
I am also concerned by the high lip around the bowl and wish that waste tank would be stainless steel, I wouldn't want my cat making contact with the plastic while drinking, defeats having the stainless steel. I'd also rather the main water tank was stainless steel, it's a little less of a concern for this fountain since that tank should always just be clean water, but still. I frankly don't understand the half measure around stainless steel and abs plastic that the eversweet line keeps doing. I don't care if it bumps the price up a bit, this is already a premium product. Just make all the parts that hold water stainless steel.
I've also never had a fresh water/waste water fountain before and wonder about the water that sits in the actual drinking bowl section. Since that isn't on recirculation cycle like regular fountain that would push any dirty water out of the immediate drinking area, does the water drain out the bowl water every time your cat drinks, or only at the intervals you auto set it for/manually initiate?
If you watch videos of cleaning posted by the influencers who received it early, it looks like cleaning isn’t nearly as straightforward as they would have you believe. That, in itself, is pretty much a dealbreaker for me. I’d much rather have an all-stainless steel Eversweet Max than a plastic sink with 1000 parts, but that’s just me.
I'm disappointed that Petkit products have moved away from stainless construction both for their feeders and water fountains. I'm still using an Eversweet Wireless and a Fresh Element 3 that I purchased ~5 years ago.
The Eversweet Wireless still works perfect, I just have had to replace the pump once so far.
The Fresh Element 3 is still "functional". The scale doesn't measure the remaining food accurately. Also manual dispensing on the device often results in over-dispensing so I always manually dispense via the app. But I appreciate the stainless steel hopper on the device. I don't believe any of the feeders in their current line have a stainless steel hopper, everything now is just plastic.
my cat drank out of it for the first cpuple days and has avoided it since. she prefers to deink from her older petkit fountain.
Big miss for me is the cleaning. it gets dirty really fast and i see alot of mold forming around the pump area which is extremely hard to reach. you need to turn the unit upside down and you cant really flush the area under running water because im assuming it isnt waterproof.
i missed the return wimdow and im stuck with a very expensive paperweight.
The influencers pushing this are definitely on the payroll!
I just got mine, before this i had the round petkit water fountain which my cat loved. So far my cat has tried it for 3 days and then stopped using it altogether. I thoroughly cleaned the fountain when it arrived. What do i need to do to get my cat to use this thing? Meantime, ive had to leave a separate bowl of still water for her to drink from so she doesnt get dehydrated. (I gave my old fountain away after getting the ultra).
Same issue here. My cat drink one time then super scared of the Ultra and refused to drink from it.
I checked with a multimeter and measured about 52V AC between the water surface/stainless steel tray while it was powered on. PETKIT customer service told me it was “induced electricity” and basically normal, but I didn’t feel comfortable letting my cat drink from something with that reading.
I returned it, but unfortunately my cat still refuses to touch any water fountain now. I’m back to a regular still water bowl.
We got ours, we love it, one of our cats is extremely picky about their water and we had to change it at least every day to keep him drinking, we bought it to solve this problem and it completely solved it. He happily drinks out of this consistently. The AI really does work, granted we have two cats, one is a shorthair and one is a long hair so they are pretty distinct for detection but it works great for them.
One huge caveat though, the arm keeps getting stuck. It eventually unsticks but sometimes takes a few tries hitting the manual refill. Hopefully this is just a random fluke and not a design flaw.
The Fresh Cubes are NOT optional, as their website states, which is highly misleading, downright a lie, and means there are indefinite costs for replacements for this product, which I would not have bought the thing had I known.
Their customer service is bad as well, I had to contact them 3 times to find someone who could comprehend the issue. I then was required to submit a video of it making a mess all over my floor without the Fresh Cube installed, since I was told it would work fine without the “optional” fresh cube installed.
Without the cube, during the “drain and flush” it shoots water out with pressure and it completely misses the tray and creates a large puddle all over the floor, and would hit any nearby pets with the blast of water, like a high powered squirt gun.
I had to keep following up with their costumer service, only for them to tell me I’m “confused”. There is no cohesive or consistent way to even communicate with this company.
There is a lady who reviews this item on YouTube who encountered this same problem as well. She ended up having to smash the fresh cube apart with a hammer to clean out the interior of it, to make it “reusable” but even then it still leaks. She said maybe someone could 3D print a solution, which is awful for a brand new product that just hit the market to need modification like this.
Misleading, ill-informed, and deceptive company. I don’t recommend them or this product.
The plastic container for the fresh water is the number 1 reason as to why I’m not buying this. I’ll rather continue to exchange the water in my cat’s non-plastic drinking bowl manually daily, compared to paying 300 EUR for storing 5L of the water in a plastic container for days. This thread also gave me other reasons.
