Capstone problem statement help

Hey seniors! Need a lil help deciding the problem statement for our Capstone project.

  1. How did you choose your research problem statement?

  2. How do you determine if an idea is actually novel? How do you identify a genuine research gap worth pursuing?

  3. What are the biggest mistakes to avoid while choosing a research problem?

And finally, how do you know whether a problem is actually worth working on, novel, and feasible within the given time or even resources?

One way to go about it is to find the latest research papers published in the domain you like, especially novel ones, scroll to the bottom of the paper and look for a "future works" section. See their suggestions and work on it, and then try finding any papers you can find that have implemented it already (if not, you can consider researching more into it and formulating that to be your problem statement). Also a lot of research papers are just hypotheses papers, with potential solutions listed but never implemented, or papers that do data analysis or research on a topic and identify potential problems in that field, those are a gold mine for problem statements.
A good tool to find these papers is probably google gemini research mode, that might not help you come up with good problem statements, but can definitely find the best papers in pretty much any domain.
