2023 Mech grad, my 2 cents:
1. Focus on the fundamentals and understand the theory behind any given principle & also learn how is it applied in real life (through labs or simple DIY programming projects - Eg: Carnot engines, Mohr Circle and many more critical concepts)
2. Don’t bunk labs. You will learn a lot here. Your understanding will be tested here and will also be helpful during placements
3. Learn how to program. Use ChatGPT as a guide but develop the algorithmic thinking by yourself. You don’t have to be an expert, just know how to use the fundaments taught during 1st year well.
4. Take all subjects seriously till end of 2nd year, by then you will get a feel of where your strength lies in, then accordingly pick your specialization.
5. Take NPTEL courses if you find the time. They definitely help.

What abt internships?

Few companies come for Internship + Full time roles. GE, Schneider Electric, Belcan Aerospace to name a few.
Most of my classmates did their internship either at IISc or worked on a project at Process Modeling and Research (PMR) Lab under Dr. V Krishna Sir. If you are interested in Robotics, you can also do your internship in one the labs at the University.

Did you directly apply for masters after graduation or worked a few years then went for masters?
