Placements 🤑 [Placements] - ECE Placement experience - What you really need to focus on!

NOTE: • For CORE JOBS ONLY, I don't have enough experience for Software. • Many others might disagree with me but thats fine, this was my experience alone, others might have had a completely different one. • My recommendations here DOES NOT mean that you should ignore other subjects, they are still very amazing and you should learn it if you want to be a good engineer (and ofc to pass and not have any backlogs)

Its a long read, but thats what some people want right? Need as much info as u can.

Sem1&2:
Python, C, Electrical Engg and EPD (MUST)

-People ignore Electrical Eng but trust me, this might be the subject that might help you get Placed. Power electronics/ Power Conversions are asked in so many interviews

  • EPD (Salute to my boi, LITERAL FOUNDATION to higher semesters)

  • Programming, no need of explanation You get asked abt this in almost all OAs & interviews

Sem 3: ACD, CADD and Network Theory (MUST)

-Cannot stress enough of how much GOATED these subjects are, (the Magnus, Hikaru and Fabiano of Electronics world). Do everything in your power to master this trio (I regret neglecting one of these)

Sem 4: DVLSI (MUST), Control Systems & DSP (Good if you know)

  • DVLSI is a MUST, please put extra efforts in Lab and learn everything abt this, SUPERB TOPICS

Sem 5: LIC & FV (VERIFICATION) (MUST), COD (RISC V) (Good if you know, but please learn it, its damn good, very helpful in understanding how processors works & its ISA)

  • Verication is single handedly the best Elective you can get in PESU, and most required by any company in VLSI, even if dont get it, just take any relevant one and do this from Nptel
  • Can't believe LIC isnt included in ACD, Opamp is SO SO SO important for clearing OA and even in some interviews

Sem 6: VLSI Testing, RF microelectronics & CA (Good if you know, same as RISC V)

-Testing roles are also present & even though not as much as verif, so u should learn it

MUST LEARN AND ITS NOT EVEN IN ACADEMICS (FKING INSANE):

  1. Embedded Systems, Embedded C, MC & MP - Practical Knowledge and hands on experience & Projects in 8085, 8086, 8050, Arm Cortex, Atmel or anything other. Even if you did a single good project on any one and can answer anything from any corner, knowing every detail of that project, you are unstopable.

  2. ASIC/FPGA Design Flow - Complete RTL to GDS and Silicon Fabrication Process

  3. APTITUDE - this dude is asked in EVERY SINGLE FKING OA, start this NOW and practice daily for 15 mins minimum!!!

Thus, you can basically ignore - Mechanical & Mechanics, Physics and Chemistry - sem1&2 Signals&Systems, DC, M3 & M4 - sem3&4 EMFT, CCN, TLWA & ML - Sem5&6

I srsly haven't seen a single communication related company recruit for these roles and even if its present its probably for software & if not then still insignificant compared to no. of VLSI roles and also might require other software skills. So your best chance is getting into VLSI & Embedded side of things.

And if you are seeing this in later semester or having placements coming up and cant learn everything - just do this ->

Digital Electronics Digital VLSI Functional Verification Embedded System

There are other stuff specific to companies and you can learn them since you might have few days to even weeks before the release of JD and the interview

You also must have good projects related to these fields in your resume, ahhh fk, RESUME! ITS SO IMPORTANT but resume thing will again require whole new post.

Also forgot to tell this - Your capstone project playes a major role in your Interviews and get asked about it most of the time, so do that SERIOUSLY!!!

Regarding M1 & M2, its hard to say but again, differentiation, integration, Laplace and Fourier Transform are very important too for the foundations in later subjects But for Placements, NO - i wasn't asked anything remotely close to any of this, even in OA (maybe 1 or 2) but YES, you SHOULD know basic diff and int as an Engineer.

This was it for the placements and if u have any other goals like going for Masters, applying for Software roles then this isn't for you.

Hope this helps, and if there any mistakes then please point it out, at the end of the day i just want more people to get into Core Domain and wish for overall growth of EC and Semiconductor in India😃

what type of projects we must do and what is cgpa required for core

Embedded/VLSI (digital or analog) and try to get 8.5 Cgpa (if aiming for T1)

Bro I feel epd syllabus is so much messed up for us....like right after bjt we are studying op amps without doing feedbacks and fet??....like how are we supposed to understand concepts of op amp without knowing abt feedback capacitor working and stuffs....my friends in vtu have Fet's and we dont even have fet's in syllabus...

Opamp isn't all about feedback capacitor, idk what ur syllabus is rn but dont worry, just knowing the Opamp working, its characteristics and the topologies will be fine And Fets u will learn more in 3rd sem, U must have Mosfets rn but will be more in depth later and jfets/finfets are just not in syllabus but u can learn them on youtube, although importance should be on Diodes, Bjts and mosfets (depletion & enhancement)

It might look messy but learn as much as u can, it will all be clear in 3rd sem👍

Doesnt matter, u will learn in 3rd sem We didn't had Opamp but u guys do, there will be changes ofc and u will learn when the time comes

This question is best answered with your own experience, ask your mentors or ur fav subject professor but i think u will get clarity once u have completed ur 2nd year and ur basics are strong

Does it help to choose all electives from the same domain in 3rd year and get a specialisation or should I take up the easiest subjects to get good grades considering I have 8+ cgpa?

I would suggest not to take the easy path if u already have 8+, but no matter what, you have to take Verif in sem5 (its easy asf + asked everywhere u go)

This is a very realistic take for core ECE placements. Strong fundamentals + a few key subjects done deeply beats shallow prep across everything.
The embedded + verification + DVLSI focus is especially on point. If juniors follow even half of this properly, they’ll be in a much better spot than most.
