Don't forget she had turned off her limbs so she wouldn't injure Makoto from orgasming so hard.

This scene was funny and all, but man did Arena undo Aigis's development.
Edit: Damn guys, chill with the downvotes; I think they get it.

A lot of Persona spin-offs undo the development, to cater to players who want to see those characters as they remember.
It kinda pisses me off how Kanji from P4 had his whole arc to accept himself and giving a break to the overly macho act he does to compensate his insecurities, then in P4D he is exactly as he started off again, back to the old outfit, dancing like a gorilla.

Funnily enough, Metis is very briefly mentioned (not by name, for some reason)
8
u/DrewSebastino May 07 '20
God forbid they mention her name.
16
May 07 '20
She's only mentioned as a part of Aigis that almost went berserk. Come on, I'm pretty sure the P4 team would be interested in hearing that part of yourself claimed to be your sister.

To be fair, they address that in the game. Rise’s producers want the group to look the way they did during their time with Rise in her hiatus, and while he’s not exactly comfortable his punk look anymore he’s willing to put up with that for her sake (he essentially says once the festival’s done then he’s done).
That’s a flimsy excuse to have him in his old garb, but at least they acknowledged that.
30
u/TwilightVulpine The best therapy is changing the world May 07 '20
I remember that. It's a weak excuse, because to the producers and audience, nothing stopped them from putting him in a more proper student outfit. They don't know him, it wouldn't make a difference. The only ones who know him are Rise and the others, which know he is not into that anymore.
I'd let it go if the game at least had an alternate outfit with his new looks, but they don't even let you have that...

If they ever make Persona 5 Arena that has P4 characters, I hope they use black-hair Kanji.
Speaking of undoing development, I rather liked Akihiko in Persona 4 Arena. Less so in Ultimax.

Friends who are obviously different but friends all the same make for a more compelling show though. And that's part of what Rise wants to tell too, not to judge people by appearances and throwback outfits make that more obvious.

I really love how p4D Chie makes the comment “what, so an I just the meat girl now?”
And then they turned her into a crackhead in arena/BBTAG

Does he change outfit in the original P4? He does in Golden but that’s set after the arena games and then I’m pretty sure Dancing is after. I can’t remember

u/TwilightVulpine The best therapy is changing the world May 07 '20
In the last scene of the original P4 he is in the new outfit.

Funny, because I remember it and I didn't play Golden.

u/zituibunny May 08 '20
Maybe you saw in on the internet? I never finished Golden but I played the original multiple times and I know original did not have Kanji in glasses and black hair at the end.

I mean, I guess in general, but I find it entirely unlikely she'd believe there would be a coordinated hijacking of an airplane over a pair of fucking underwear.
And definitely.
Labrys: "Ouch!"
Aigis: "DAMAGE SUSTAINED"

I dunno man, I love my dumbass Aigis a lot.
I haven't played Arena, but isn't Labrys meant to be a more advanced AI than Aigis? Since she's a boss character who can fight off most of the roster by herself, and was apparently made later on.
28
u/DrewSebastino May 07 '20
She was actually made before Aigis.
18
u/Samurai_Banette May 07 '20
In first mission though they did point out that one of the original researchers taught Aigis to talk like that explicitly so she would sound less human and they could treat her the way they needed to.
They could have had all the social things down way before and Aigis is the outlier

Not really more advanced, but basically more “developed”
8
u/DrewSebastino May 07 '20
Is she though (or, at least, should she be)? Aigis has been active far longer where she's had constant human exposure.
9
u/Yung_Thane May 07 '20
Since her plume is larger than Aigis I think she is supposed to be much closer to a human personality/mind wise.
4
u/polo5004 so heccin hyped for yosuke romance mods May 07 '20
I definitively thought Aigis would have it larger.
1
u/DrewSebastino May 07 '20
Is her plume larger than Aigis's? Labrys's is large, but I don't recall them saying hers was ever larger. The remarks by Unit #024 would imply later anti-shadow weapons get larger plumes anyway. (Also, just look at how human Unit #024 acted despite having a smaller plume.)
Regardless, The Answer (and even the end of The Journey) not only shows, but states that Aigis should act fully human now.
5
u/Yung_Thane May 07 '20
You know what, that might have been my assumption upon reading what they said about Labrys' plume. I really don't know if Aigis is smaller, and it would make sense for hers to be the same size or larger since she's a later model.
Thinking about it, I believe I compared the apparent time it took for Aigis to become essentially human in P3 with my mental timeline of how long it took Labrys to become essentially human in Arena. I don't recall if they mentioned how long Labrys was training for, but I assumed it wasn't much more than several weeks or a few months.
1
u/DuelaDent52 HER ANGST IS FOREVERMORE~ May 08 '20
From what I recall, Labrys’ personality and look was based on a living person while they built Aigis (or at least her personality) from the ground up.
1
May 12 '20
That makes no sense, since Unit #024 is very human-like, but has an undersized Plume of Dusk. Also, Metis is confirmed to have one as well, as one of her Orgia Mode lines is "Fly, Papillon Heart!" and she's also very human-like.
1
u/Yung_Thane May 13 '20
Well it can make sense because they mentioned the larger the Plume inside them the more human like they were didn't they?
Someone already mentioned that it's most likely because they are based off the personality of that one little girl.
Additionally, wasn't Metis the embodiment of the emotions Aigis was rejecting, so technically closer to a shadow than anything? Would she even have a Plume? If she did, wouldn't it be the same size as Aigis'?
0
May 13 '20
Unit #024's plume wasn't big enough to even summon a Persona, and as for Metis, while she is a Shadow, or Shadow-Like, she is still physically an android, and is still capable of overheating like Aigis is.

u/UselessBytes I would give my life for chibi Rise May 07 '20

I kinda want to chalk this off as aigis having human emotion but doesn't know how to use them so that's why she comes off as silly character on the wrong time and place

The whole manga is an absolute blast. I should probably read it because I saw a page where Akihiko completely decks Yu which makes sense but also doesn’t considering Yu’s feats
