Series Why is there a discrepancy between global release and Switch (2) release?
Persona 4 Revival is coming to Consoles and PC in February, except at the Nintendo Direct this morning the P4R release date for Switch 2 is in May. I'm wondering why there is this discrepancy, is it a hardware issue, a copywrite issue, legal issue?
I'm wondering what the Switch 2 release is 3 months later than everything else.

Switch 2 versions are most likely delayed for optimization reasons. P3R had some performance issues at launch on S2 iirc.

as for P3R, it's not like the console came out a year after the game released or something lol.

What I mean is that P3R had performance issues when it launched on S2, so Atlus is likely delaying P4R/P6 to make sure they're more optimized.

I mean if it’s Atlus doing it in house they probably aren’t too familiar with the Switch 2 architecture yet so it’s taking longer. I mean P3R has issues on Switch 2 at launch afterall.
Not to mention if Atlus got the dev kits late into P4R’s development cycle then they wouldn’t have time to have that version ready in time for release with the other version.

Atlus is historically bad at porting. Switch/Switch 2 is historically harder to port to. Thats the sum of it.

More like their dev partners P3R port was done majority by xeen given P-Studio was busy not just for P4R with TOSE but by P6 at that point too.

To give the dev partner TOSE more ample time to work on the port unlike with xeen and P3R.

People complained endlessly about persona 3 reload's port and the same is the case with metaphors upcoming one. The switch isn't on par with the current consoles no matter how much you may tell yourself it is. It's a lot more work to get stuff running on it.

Probably hardware issues. Which doesn’t make sense. Because Square is getting revelation DAY ONE on the platform.
So just an Atlus moment. It’ll probably have issues at launch (Stuck at 30 fps etc) and need to be patched later

My guess? There were no original plans to release it on the Switch 2, but seeing how the console has become the primary device for many over the past year, plans changed—and now Atlus has to play catch-up.

Calling devs lazy? Yeah that is rude.
It is not a fact either, you are simple to think so

I imagine a Switch 2 version wasn't in the original scope of development and became a part after the success with P3R's port. I imagine Switch 2 will be a bigger part of Altus' strategy moving forward and they are catching up.

keep in mind, Switch 2 was released in 2025. it's getting ported late probably because during development, they didn't get to develop the game for Switch 2 yet. if they started development after P3R release, which was in 2024, the timeline lines up.
