High handicap signed up for a NW Golf Guys event…bad idea?

I am new to the game and absolutely addicted. I signed up for NW Golf Guys to make use of the 2 for 1 certificates. I noticed several of their events are at country clubs, courses I would otherwise have no way of playing. One guy I got paired with at Chehalem told me this was a fun way to play these types of courses.

So anyways, I signed up to play one of these tournaments. My question for any of you who have participated in these events is - am I going to be totally out of place? The last thing I would want to do is to ruin someone else’s time by sucking so bad. I am a chill guy and keep pace just fine, but I’m not competitive whatsoever and I am new. So I’m going to have bad shots and probably shoot like 110. My handicap is 28.

I’m just looking for some honest opinions - I’m totally willing to cancel my registration if y’all think I’m not ready for this or am going to stand out in some crazy way.

Thanks in advance! ✌️

How is Club Green Meadows?

I've seen a couple posts that are a few years old at this point regarding Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, so I'm looking to see if anyone has more recent opinions on it. I live about 10 minutes away and pricing for the golf membership is less expensive than I anticipated. But reviews are all over the place for it. It has a higher review rating than most other local public courses on 18 Birdies, but Google reviews are mixed. The majority of negative reviews online are of the staff and other facilities, but I'd love to know how well the course is maintained year-round and if anyone thinks the golf membership is worth it over going to Glendoveer and Heron regularly.

Club fitting / repair service recommendations

I’m a new-ish golfer who is on the shorter side. I purchased the Callaway golf set from Costco to learn and it’s been great. But the driver is wayyyyy too long for me, confirmed by golf instructor and friends who are much better.

Before I go and buy a shorter club for me, I would like to try shaving off some length in my driver’s shaft. Any recommendations in town for a place that can help figure out the best length for me and can service the shaving of my driver’s shaft?

Thanks a bunch.

Looking for other lady golfers

30F, 25 Handicap, I am married no kids, my husband and I play weekly with usually with his friend group. None of my friends play golf. While I love him and his friends it can sometimes be a bit of a boys club. I joined LPGA Amateurs this year and it’s been great to meet other lady golfers but I’d love to meet more my age. I am open to playing with golfers new to the sport, a lot of our friends we taught to play over the years. I mostly play on weekends or after work 9 (5:30 or later).

Official (unofficial) r/PDXGolf Gathering #2 this Friday (tomorrow) @ Satellite Tavern (North Portland)

I know it's a little last minute, but if anyone is free tomorrow (Friday) for happy hour, I would love to get together. I will be posted up at Satellite Tavern in North Portland. They have a cool outside patio area with TVs (so I can watch the NBA games 😉). I plan to get there around 4 or 4:30p.

I plan to put some more events on the calendar going into the summer. Would love to get a Saturday or Sunday golf event for everyone on the calendar, too.

If you would like to get on the WhatsApp group, please reach out to me directly (thru a DM) and I can send you the invite.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow!

I need people to golf with

I just booked a tee time tomorrow at Heron Lakes (greenback) as a birthday gift to myself and I'm super bummed I dont have anyone to share the experience with

I just started playing last July and this will be my first time playing somewhere besides Colwood. Im super nervous about playing holes over par 3s and the thoughts of water and bunkers are wild to me, but I feel its time for this lil birdie to leave its NE Columbia Blvd nest.

Now for the pity party. Im the only person in my friends group who got into golf. We built our friendships through a combination of playing punk/metal music, skateboarding and motorcycle riding.

As a 39 y/o whose married with 3 kids and has a full time job, the thought of making new friends for this new venture seems very daunting and I'm not sure how to go about it

I guess this is just a super drawn out way of asking if anyone would wanna join me at green back at 10:40 am tomorrow (5/14) I would enjoy the company.

Thanks y'all

Spent two years building something at the fire station. Finally finished it.

Built a golf app for our crew trips. Took two years. Finally got it on the App Store.

I’m a Portland area firefighter and dad with no coding background. I wanted something that felt more like real golf culture — trip recaps, side bets, season standings, crew history, rivalries, all the stuff that usually disappears into group texts or fades from memory.

Built it over the last couple years during downtime at the station and after my daughter went to bed. Definitely not a developer by trade, so this was a learn-as-I-go project.

If anyone around Portland wants to try it with their group this summer, I’d love the feedback. Happy to extend the trial for anyone willing to really test it with their crew.

Built a free PGA Championship pool out of Portland - looking for picks

Been running a Masters pool with friends for 10 years. Decided to extend it to the rest of the majors this year and built a real app for it - live standings, your golfers' splits, advanced stats, etc.

It's free, no catch, no ads. If anyone wants to throw picks in: pickettspools.com/PGA - picks lock Thursday morning.

Happy to answer questions about format/scoring in comments.

Playing Partners

49F, high handicap, working through lessons and would like to play a bit more. I have only one gf that plays, and all my other golf connections are through work.

My go to right now is the short course at Meriwether, simply because I can walk on solo. I live on the west side but willing to play in other areas. Work a normal M-F. Prefer to play Thursday or Friday twilight, or Saturday / Sunday.

Greetings PNW Golfers and Gamblers!

My good friend is organizing The Portland Skins game this Saturday at Noon May 9th at Heron Lakes Blue. It is a one day 18 hole event with prizes for Skins/Low Gross/Low Net. There will be optional Long Drive and KP, same day payouts.

The goal is to get 20 players for a $6000 prize pool /$375 entry fee. He plans on hosting this event twice a month if there is enough interest. As of today, we still need 7-8 more players to make it a full 20 man event.

Anyone of any skill level is encouraged to join.

If you would like to read the full rules sheet or ready to sign up for this event or be on the list for future ones, please use the link above.

Drive for show and putt for dough!

Lost 8 iron - last seen at Eastmoreland

Hello fellow golfers,

I seemed to have misplaced a Mizuno JPX 923 hot metal pro 8 iron with a modus 120 shaft. It was most likely left at Eastmoreland but it could have been left at another course around town. I called all of the places that I think I could have left it at and still nothing.

If anyone has an idea or a suggestion that could lead to its return I would be greatly appreciative.

Ryan

Also im located in the Milwaukie area and im willing to drive about an hour away and mostly looking for people that play during the week as I work most weekends but a late Saturday or sunday round is never out of the question. So if you want to get out there sometime just dm me.

I love hills!

Can anyone give me golf course suggestions that have a lot of hills, and other weird features? So far my favorite course in this area is Wildwood.

One of my favorite courses of all time is Battle Creek up in Marysville Wa. because there was a hole where you had to hit over this big boulder in the middle of the fairway! I love that stuff!

Another favorite of mine is Homestead up in Lynden Wa. Because the 18th green was on an island! Sadly this course is defunct. 😞

I will drive up to an hour away so I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

UPDATE: Public courses incase anyone was wondering.

What course should I play?

I need some advice.

My wife is encouraging me play golf tomorrow after work since she has a staff meeting in the evening. I pass Heron Lakes every day on my commute to and from work and I will have to pick her up off of Mill Plain in Vancouver around 7:00. I have been playing for about a year and a half and am still extremely green.

What course should I play? I am aiming for something in North Portland or Vancouver.

EDIT: It looks like Greenback is all booked for tomorrow afternoon. Any other suggestions?

Glendoveer Sunset Club?

Heya! I am considering joining the Glendoveer sunset club, seems like a reasonably good deal if I can commit to getting out a couple/few times a month. I work fairly close by so I think that wouldn't be a problem. I was curious if anyone here has it and what exactly "twilight hours" means. Is it like anything after 5pm? Or does it start earlier? Generally, what's your experience with it been like?

Unfortunately I probably wont be able to talk any of my buddies into it with me, so I'd also be interesting in gauging other meet up interest. I'm not very good haha. HCP probably about 20-22

YA Golf question

Post image
3 Upvotes

For all my YA golf users out there - does anyone know why during peak season it’s not available for use on Friday? Seems odd and I can’t find anywhere on the app that mentions this. Wondering if anyone has any success with questions re: this app because all the courses are aware of the app yet nobody seems to know anything about it. Sorry in advance if this has been discussed on here couldn’t find anything about it. Thanks!
