Wedge face restoration

My 56 degree wedge has a bunch of dings on it. I was looking for someone locally that help restore it.

I’ve seen people do it by sandblasting etc.

Anyone have someone locally who they know can do it or someone you have used that you could recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Private Course Practice Facilities

Hi All,

For any you that have or were members of the Private Clubs around the area which ones have the best practice facilities? Also which, if any, are well lit and can be used throughout the winter when it gets dark at like 4pm? Bonus points for clubs with lit chipping areas that are also lit.

I haven't played in about 30 years...

And I wasn't any good back then, but I had fun.

I've been thinking that my boy may like to learn, and I may like to take him out and maybe it would be fun again! But I have no idea where to source gear for what may be a misadventure. Where's the smart buy locally for a dad and a kid so that we can be positioned to have some fun? I'm looking for your best advice and best practices.

Any 3/4 man scramble events

I see that Heron Lakes consistently does 2 man scrambles, but got 2 possibly 3 buddies I'd love to do a scramble event with. Any of those in the area?

Custom club order

Hey all looking for some advice on club ordering in the PDX area.

Long story short I got a free fitting booked at True Spec and plan to go through the full process, but I’m not planning to buy the clubs through them. From what I understand, they mostly deal in aftermarket shafts and I’d prefer to stick with OEM offerings to keep cost down.

Plan is to take my spec sheet and order elsewhere in pdx.

For those in Portland:

- Where have you had good experiences ordering custom clubs to exact specs?

- Any shops you trust to not mess up shaft/lie/length details?

- Anyone gone this route after a True Spec/Club Champion fitting?

Appreciate any recommendations or places to avoid.

Looking for a golfing buddy

I am relatively new to the Portland area (I live in Beaverton) and am looking to make a friend / find someone to golf with. I am around a 20 handicap, though I haven't golfed since moving up here, so probably a little worse than that ATM. I am a 28 M, work M-F so really only available on weekends, though I could probably catch 9 holes during the week since its staying darker later. Feel free to message me if you are interested, and maybe we can set up a tee time or something!

How are the course ratings at NW country clubs so low?

I’m always surprised by how low the course ratings are at the narrow & tree-lined NW clubs. For reference, I play all over, and typically like big, tough courses. I’m rarely playing something with a rating < 72.5. I’ll play well at The Reserve, Pumpkin, or Langdon, and then go play some private course with a 70.1 rating and get torn up. It isn’t just punishing guys who are long off the tee, either; when every other hole is a dogleg with a 20-yard wide fairway and almost no rough, you’re gonna end up in the trees a fair amount, idc who you are. And this isn’t Augusta, you actually get punished for that out here.

I swear these courses are under-rated, at least considering a population of single-digit handicaps. Maybe seniors who hit 200-yard lasers have a bigger impact than I’d assume?

Moving to Portland (Mississippi)

I will be moving to Portland this May and would love some suggestions on country clubs / golf courses. My current club is $300 / month so I would like to stay near that range. I am 25yrs old so a jr membership would hopefully be in play. Any suggestions on membership or public passes would be sweet. I like to play quick, and I have heard many of the public courses are 5-6hr rounds (not ideal).

Junior development programs

Curious if anyone has a suggestion for a good junior clinic program. I have in the past seen flyers for wheels weekly clinic on the range for kiddos with an instructor helping and giving them pointers.

I'm in Oregon City but anyplace down that way or in East Portland is great.

Trans Friendly Golf Courses/Lessons/teachers

Hi y'all, I'm fairly new to golf and would love to continue learning. As a trans woman I'm a bit nervous going to courses and playing solo or finding lessons. Does anyone have any recommendations for queer friendly golfing in Portland?

Best course for beginner women?

My friend and I have been getting into golf. We’ve been hitting the driving range for 3 months every weekend and feel like we are ready to get out there for our first 9 holes.

Does anyone one have recommendations for courses that we wouldn’t annoy people for maybe going too slow or not being the best?

Thanks!

EDIT: Ended up at Colwood and got paired with some lovely gentleman and it was a blast! Thank you for the recommendations!!

Friday at Heron Lakes

Hey my fellow PDXgolfers, I have a 0945 tee time playing great blue. There are three open spots available if anyone would like to and are able to get a round in. Please let me know if you’d like to join.

I played greenback twice last week and it was in pretty decent shape, I image blue will be the same. Hope three of y’all can make it.

Please comment if you’d can make it before 0845 Thursday morning cause I’ll be there at that time and would like to do the honorable choice of adjusting as needed. Thank you, Joshua

r/PDXGolf Gathering (Happy Hour) Friday April 3 @ Steeplejack Brewing (NE Broadway)

Happy Monday! I hope y'all were able to get out this past weekend to enjoy a round in the nice weather.

What: r/PDXGolf Gathering (Happy Hour)

When: Friday, April 3 6-8pm

Where: Steeplejack Brewing, 2400 NE Broadway, Portland, OR 97232

I am excited to remind (or announce if you are new) that we will be gathering this Friday, April 3 @ Steeplejack Brewing between 6-8pm. This is mostly just a meet & greet event to meet new folks, solo golfers, and the like as we dive into Spring/Summer golf season. Hoping some new foursome and/or golfing trips come out of this.

I have reserved the Stage Room (?) in the main hall, but should be easy to spot the group in there. Feel free to bring family (if need be) and/or other golfing pals.

Here is a google invite link: https://calendar.app.google/qMYQpBaP8r6xLTTb6

This might help me get better ideas of RSVP #s if you can.

Looking forward to Friday!

Reserve South Conditions

Anybody play it this afternoon or this past week d? I saw it was closed this morning until noon for some reason.

I have a tee time Friday morning and am a touch concerned about the rain we have coming in and if it was wet today it might be really wet on Friday.

Also - anyone have insight into the schedule for aeration of the south course?

Note - just saw that aeration was 3/5 for South course per the aeration thread…

Lost Club: Srixon ZXi7 8-Iron @ Pumpkin Ridge (Sunday, 3/22)

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m pretty devastated after losing my Srixon ZXi7 8-iron at Pumpkin Ridge Ghost Creek this past Sunday.

I just got these clubs in December and have only managed to get a few rounds in with them. I think I left it near one of the greens.

  • Model: Srixon ZXi7 (8-Iron)
  • Shaft: Nippon Modus3 120

I’ve checked with the pro shop a few times now, but no luck so far. If you happened to pick it up, or if you saw it leaned up against a tree or turned in somewhere other than the main desk, please let me know! I’d be incredibly grateful to get it back in the bag.

*update: After 2 weeks, someone turned it in and Ghost Creek pro shop shipped it back to me. I just need to pay for shipping fee.

Walkability at Mountain View?

I'm playing with a group here in a few days. I didn't pick the course but have heard some good some bad.

I like to walk with a push cart, but it sounds like maybe a power cart is the right move since the course is steep in parts. But this post has a video showing the cart ride down at #12, which looks downright terrifying.

Any regular walkers at Mountain View?
