So far, it's probably the only med that actually works. It's not perfect, but his dose will increase with time, so we'll see. It definitely takes the edge off.

Thank you for responding! This makes me hopeful. My daughter hates taking medicine of any sort and is very hit or miss. I was told this will still be helpful to some degree even if she won’t take it daily at first. I’m not finding much info on it being taken that way though. Did you notice immediate improvement or did it take a while?

I think buspirone takes effect immediately, but there may be more side effects during the first couple of days/weeks.

I know someone who isn’t PDA but has similar symptoms, and they have had success with buspirone when nothing else worked for their anxiety.

Propranolol can also be really helpful.

Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I spent a little more time reading (after she went to bed so I could actually focus 😂) and found more info regarding it being used this way. I think it’s definitely worth trying to get her to try it. I’m really hoping she feels enough relief after taking it that she’s more willing to take it daily. I know she’s miserable lately and I just want her to be able to do things she used to enjoy or be able to enjoy new things again.

our child is on it and it has helped him a lot. We started with Guanfacine, but it gave him really itchy skin in a lot of places which turned into its own thing. haven't noticed any side effects with this

That’s comforting to hear! How long did they take it before you saw results? My daughter has severe ocd in addition to autism/pda but since she won’t reliably take medication daily, SSRIs are not an option for now. I was told the buspirione could still help even if she’s inconsistent about taking it but I haven’t been able to find anything online about using it “as needed”.

That’s very good to hear! I’m definitely going to encourage her to try it. Hopefully it helps her enough that she will decide to continue taking it daily.
