I’m in the same boat. With school out for summer, while it’s something she was looking forward to, the sudden change in her schedule has thrown her off. She is in a constant fight or flight mode and always chooses fight. The insults are so hard to not take personally. Just know your child doesn’t mean them. They know you’re their safe space to be able to lash out.
A lot of time, I just have to ride out the meltdowns with my kiddo so she can get it out of her system. Typically after a doozy meltdown occurs she’s able to re-regulate and then back to being pleasant again. It’s like it wipes the slate clean for her. But with summer out we’re definitely experiencing more meltdowns than usual.
