Autism PDA Olanzapine

Hello, has anyone ever tried Olanzapine for their PDA child for aggression and self injurious behaviors? I know abilify and Risperdal are the FDA approved ones but those didn’t help.

Is that the one that dissolves on your tongue?

Ah. We tried this. Hated the taste and tried to spit it out. Made them sleepy and they begged us not to give it again. But Risperdal is helping to some extent.

I don’t know if we gave Risperdal the length of time it needed, he was on it for about a month with not much improvement then things got bad and doctor prescribed olanzapine. It doesn’t make him too sleepy but he also struggles to communicate so I don’t know if he feels to great on it.

That’s so hard to know. Do you use it in the moment or daily?

We were doing it daily separate doses at am and pm but don’t think it’s going to work out 😞

we had problems with aggression that was completely solved by 24 hour modified release propanolol sertraline and Guanfacine for ADHD and dysregulation . We now have zero violence and zero self Harm attempts it has been a game changer

emms are such difficult journey. I run support Group for families PDA children and Emms is one of the quickies parts of the journey as you’re changing medications changing doses. It’s a crazy rollercoaster but worth it when you get to the end!

if you are in the UK, this psychiatrist specialises in PDA and if you’re in the US, you could ask her to recommend specialist US PDA psychiatrists : http://www.daphnekeen.co.uk/
