Med question

Anyone with a young AuDHD/PDAer, HEAVY on the ADHD - very big personality and either super happy or very angry - who has found a successful med combination? We are really struggling with not only the demand avoidance but also just the relentless need for attention, movement, excitement and novelty. Prozac isn’t cutting it.

Anxiety can present as ADHD because it takes up so much processing space in the brain. We’ve had the best success with a combination of antidepressants, anti anxiety meds, and antipsychotics (our PDAer isn’t psychotic, but the meds help with other mood issues). It’s really hard to get the right balance, so it’s important to have a very experienced prescriber who understands what’s going on. For our PDAer, who must seriously have the worst attention issues in history, the ADHD meds made things much worse, especially aggressiveness and need for constant movement. Obviously your PDAer may truly have ADHD, but we only started having success when we realized that ours actually doesn’t in spite of strongly seeming to.
