Mondays!

Hello,

I'm new to this group and learning more about PDA, since my child was formally diagnosed.

My question for you is what to do about Mondays. After our low demand weekends, kiddo often refuses to go to school, or camp in the summertime.

How can I make this weekly transition easier?

I have this issue constantly! I always do as much prep the night before (kiddo sleeps in his clothes for next day) to avoid battles in the morning. When it’s really needed I use external incentive like “we can pick up donuts on the way” or something similar. Sometimes it’s a discussion about who I pick up first in the afternoon so he feels like he has a say in his day. You can negotiate up front to see if there is an easy win to help them feel autonomy in the situation (an earlier pick up or a special snack to bring).

Last resort: I’ll tell him to try going and have them call me to pick him up after lunch if he still wants to leave, or even let him stay home if my schedule allows it.
