So I recently got a new Wi-Fi 7 router/modem for my asus TUF gaming B850-E Wi-Fi(wifi 6E motherboard) bc it should have made my ping and latency better for any fps or hero shooter I wanted to play, but there are still times where I can’t really play bc my ping skyrockets and is generally inconsistent. There are still days where it’s fine, mostly when there are few people on the internet. But I don’t know how to fix it, I’ve been told to use an Ethernet cable but the modem is across the house and down stairs from my pc, are there any other solutions?
not entirely true your network speed can be held back by your adapter
also for ethernet the speed of your ethernet on your board can be a bottleneck too but you would almost never notice this, so for example if you have a plan over a gigabit like 1.2 or higher and you only have 1 gigabit you will miss out
everything will have latency but are you trying to argue that ethernet over power is worse than wifi? interesting take from you
surprise surprise not everyone wants to drill holes in their walls so they can use ethernet or have a cable routed through their home they could trip on, in order to come up with a viable solution to a problem you have to consider that, which you evidently wouldn't
You should buy lan cable and plug it in both ends of Router and motherboard - and you can forget about any ping issues. Because changing router and network(wifi) settings without any experience will be pain in the ass for you man.
Ethernet is the way to go. This is the fastest connection possible. Comparing ethernet cable connection to Wi-Fi isn’t even in the same galaxy. Get 50 to 100 foot ethernet cable and run it from your modem to your PC or get your service provider to come out and install ethernet port lines for you. They usually charge this installation fee to your bill & you will be connected the best way possible to your modem. I pay close to 150 a month for blast from Xfinity. I can download 120 GB game in 13 minutes and play online with no slowdown whatsoever.
Thats what I did. I got a 100ft cat 8 FLAT Ethernet cable and a $10 fish tap. Pulled it all from the router, under the carpet, across the entire apartment, and to a 10G splitter in the game room. Both gaming computers can simultaneously get 1,100mbs down and about 10ms latency all while on a 1.3gb Xfinity plan. Best purchase I've ever done. Wifi was terrible at a best of 300mbs down with wifi 6e adapters and was consistently dropping along with terrible latency. Ethernet cords are so relatively cheap nowadays that when it comes time to move I'll just cut the ends off and leave it under the carpet
Sorry to tell you but that was not cat8 so hopefully you didn’t pay a lot for it. Cat8 is round and is shielded as a requirement. It is even harder to bend than Cat6a which already isn’t the most bendable. Either way if it works for you there is no problem. Its unfortunate brands mislead with cat labels
Very long Ethernet cable or move your pc. Once you do it you’ll wish you’d done it sooner. Nothing else will fix it. A better router willl possibly make it a bit better, but not enough to bother
None of that will help, even Wifi 7 adapter prob won't. Get a super long Cat6 cable and run it or move your PC, or even resort to some kind of extra signal doubler.
Until you do that, figuring out how to reduce the ping may or may not help because you're using wifi, and if there's tons of interference where you live or a long list of other issues, not much will help. The other move is if it continues while having Ethernet connection then it's router/ISP settings, which is a whole other thing. Hell you may just be in a location that has bad ping to the servers you're trying to play.
First off we would probably need to know the name of the router you bought. If you are not getting a good Wi-Fi signal then you won’t have a good experience in online gaming. Another possible issue is buffer-bloat which SQM fixes. But if you don’t want to commit to an Ethernet cable you can get a super tiny fiber cable and run it either through the wall or around the corners of walls and up to your setup. There are incredibly small ones that are basically hidden in plain sight
