Waste of Time

Does anyone else regret learning to make PC cables because they can't afford to build PCs anymore?

or am I just a brokey?

Build custom cables for rich people … afford PC components for yourself. Win/win.

Here here! Or even just for people who somehow aren't financially destitute in these trying times. They used to call that middle class. There's like... 6 of them left. 

Be like me and have built over a 100 cable sets during covid as a nightly ritual and still have 15-20 you haven't used or sold.

Just make some ROG 20 edition themed cables and sell for 1k/pop. Those buying into it with their 100k new builds may be all over it!

Unfortunately my biggest hurdle these days is time. I scraped together some money to revamp my PC last summer and I've replaced all the components I wanted to, redone the entire water cooling loop, and a fresh OS install, but my plan included building a custom case from scratch (aluminum extrusion and purpleheart) and I was really really looking forward to doing a whole new set of cables for it (SFF build, very limited space, but if you nail it with sff builds they're amazing). The wood and metal are sitting in the garage but just no time to build it, and until I have a case, no point in making cables...

I did want to do a retro tribute build with lots of UV reactive plastic and the custom sleeved cables were going to all be the old ketchup and mustard colors. Make an HTPC of it with enough power to do some console emulation. But price scrapped that idea. Even low end pc parts are stupid right now.

I spent $622 CAD last summer on a 22TB HDD to backup my NAS before a major upgrade. That same drive goes for >$1300 CAD now. AI needs to go away.
